About the room

I am a 31 year old professional female. I work a regular schedule: M-F, about 8-5pm. I have been living at this property with a good friend for the past 3 years. I love the neighborhood and the affordability of the apartment so much that I plan to stay here for at least another year despite my friend moving out at the end of May. If you own a car, so do I and have never had a problem finding street parking nearby.

I am looking for another female roommate between 25-35 who has a steady income and is an open communicator. The apartment is semi-furnished, as my current/previous roommate owns about half of the communal furniture and electronics in the apartment. I plan to purchase some replacement furnishings when she moves out, but have no issue with you bringing in any of your own for personal and/or communal use. I am easygoing and am more than willing to share most things around the house. The gas, electric, and internet bills are not included with the rent. The gas is currently under my name, but we can work out how the other two bills will be paid when the time comes. I expect you to split the cost of most shared items, such as toilet paper (this is negotiable and the specifics can be determined later), and additional bills for gas, electric, and internet (these 3 are non-negotiable). One great thing about this place is that it has free washer and dryer on the floor below! There is only one other tenant who has access to these amenities, so it’s almost always available for use.

Your private bedroom also comes with a private walk-in closet. Your closet is not attached to the bedroom, however, but is located in the back of the unit by the kitchen (as is my own private closet). It’s also known as the “sun room.” It’s a great benefit for anyone with a lot of clothing, accessories, and other trinkets. Your closet does not come with a door, but you can decorate it and set it up any way you see fit. The landlord may also be willing to help you install anything you deem necessary.

The best thing about living here is, by far, the front and back yards! You really don’t realize how much you take this for granted until you live somewhere that doesn’t have it. The landlord also allows you to plant vegetables in the back, if that’s something you’re interested in.

After living with my friend for 3 years, I now realize certain aspects of our lives would have improved had we agreed on specific boundaries and rules as a team. We failed to draft and sign a “roommate contract”. Despite this, our living arrangement was generally calm and collected. While I am open to opinions, I believe that by living under a “roommate contract” authored and agreed on by both parties, our quality of life as roommates will be much healthier and less stressful (especially since we won’t know each other well enough beforehand). I am a big believer in setting boundaries and am always trying to learn from past mistakes. I’d love to know what your thoughts are about this! I try to keep my home as much of a safe haven as possible. It would hurt me to know that you do not feel as safe and as comfortable as possible, since this will potentially be your home, too.
