Rachel's room
About the room
I am in the process of buying my first house and looking to rent out a private room in my new home. I would be the only other person living in the house and plan to use the upstairs bedroom that has it’s own little bungalow sized bathroom. The available room would be on the main floor. It has a nice sized closet with mirrored sliding doors. The kitchen and bathroom were both recently remodeled and the floors were redone. All the kitchen and laundry appliances are new and available for your use. The main floor bathroom wouldn’t be entirely private, but the shower would be for your exclusive use and any storage space in there would be yours. You would have your own cupboard space in the kitchen and storage space in either the basement or 2 car garage. While I have a general plan for the living room and dining room, they may not be immediately furnished. If you have furniture you’d like to bring to the house we can certainly discuss it. There isn’t a huge yard, but there’s enough room for a small garden or grill if you are interested in having one. I’m not great at taking care of plants myself, but like having them around so it would be good for both of us if you enjoy gardening. If you happen to enjoy doing yard work, too, we can negotiate a lower rent as I am otherwise planning to hire someone to take care of the grass, leaves and snow. I intend to have a well maintained property, I just don’t love being the one to keep nature in check. There is no pressure on this front; I just know some people actually enjoy working outside so I wanted to throw it out there as an option.
About the roomies
I’m a good human to live with. I have a couple decades of roommate experience and can provide references upon request. (I will ask you for references, so feel free to do the same!) Until buying my first home I have always been the one renting from another person so I will understand your position very well and will work with you to make sure you are comfortable and have what you need! I want good vibes in my home. I tend towards an upbeat positive attitude (yes, somehow even now,) and prefer people who are polite at a minimum, but ideally pleasant and even fun to be around.
I keep pretty busy with work, dance, volunteering, and sometimes seeing my friends and family. When I’m home I like to practice my dances for the classes I take, bake (yes, I share!) crochet, read, and paint my nails with cute designs. With a full kitchen at my disposal I am hoping to get into cooking more and at least do some healthy meal prep every week. I am determined to have a clean and organized house with a place for everything. Truthfully, that hasn’t always been my m.o. but at the very least I’ve always kept common areas tidy and I don’t leave dishes in the sink. I will appreciate a roommate who is also capable of cleaning up after themselves. I like to have music on for most activities and I enjoy a wide range. I like at least some of every genre I’ve encountered with the exception of country music. If you like music that goes twang I’ll need you to use headphones! If certain types of music trigger you, please just let me know! I don’t listen to my music at a loud volume and as an extra courtesy to you, I’ll attempt to keep my singing of showtunes to the shower and car.
During the week I get up around 6am to get ready for work. I currently work outside of the house from 7:30 until about 4:30. I like the house to be quiet by 10 and it is greatly beneficial have a housemate who is on a similar schedule as I am a light sleeper. Whatever you do, you will need to provide proof of income and a steady job. While I am accepting of nearly all lifestyles, there are some things I am physically allergic to and cannot allow on the property. Smoking of any kind is not negotiable. I also have a lot of fragrance allergies so I prefer a roommate who does not use a lot of scented products. Most of the roommates I’ve had in the past have been male for this reason (although there are plenty of fragrances sold to men that I’m allergic to, in general guys seem to use fewer scented products.) I am happy to consider a roommate of any gender, but if you use anything flowery I will definitely be allergic to you and it won’t work out. If you like to spray perfume or scented hairspray it will probably not be a good fit. There are some fragrances I can handle, but they are the exception. If you need a variety of aroma therapies to be happy this won’t be the right space for you. If you can be satisfied with fragrance-free laundry products we’re off to a good start!
While I am friendly and love an occassional game night or book club meeting, I tend to be more introverted and like my home to be calm and predictable. Of course you would be welcome to have friends over to visit, but I would want to know in advance if anyone other than the two of us was going to be in the house. Sometimes I don’t have the social battery to be around other people so it’s best to have advanced warning. I tend to plan ahead and would do you the same courtesy so there are no random human surprises. In general once or twice a week is all I’d like to have guests over. This lets the house be a calm place to come home to after a busy day. It may shift slightly with having my own place, but in general I prefer to go out to be social rather than have people over. It’s easier to call it a night when I’m done that way.
I am open to talking to any adult who feels they are in a good position to consistently pay rent on time, respect my policies, the property and everything in it, and enhance the good vibes of the house in their own way. I am not looking to rent to couples or anyone with custody of a child. I love animals, but prefer not to have them in my new house. I might consider a small caged pet that is primarily kept and cared for in your room, but I would want to see/hear it in person first. If you have any questions I didn’t answer please just send me a message.
