About the room
Small Room For Rent in converted living room in Co-Living Space on 2nd Floor of Single Family Home.
Available June 25th.
There are 2 rooms available side by side. Only room for 1 person on each side.
Comes with a twin bed, space for your clothes in cabinets, next to a window for fresh air. Not a lot of space overall though. So you must have minimal belongings.
Not a good fit for a sensitive person or light sleeper. People living in the house are still quite and respectful. However, walking up the stairs you hear the sound of creaking, and people have different schedules using the kitchen and bathrooms and you may hear them at different hours of the day and night. Depending on the noise level of the person next to you as well.
This is not luxury living. It is clean, functional, basic, and when things break around the house, they are addressed quickly and a solution is made.
Besides these 2 rooms, in the upstairs unit, there are four bedrooms (with 1-2 people per room with closed doors) and 2 full bathrooms (that everyone shares first come first served and no private bathrooms for anyone). Co-ed and mixture of people can change over time.
Could be a good fit for a commuter room for someone to sleep certain days (assuming you are not a light sleeper and comfortable with this). Could be for a short time for someone who needs a place to stay or just visiting.
Could be good for a student in the area. It’s not a party house though and there is not much room for guests. As well as it is important to be respectful of the other occupants living here.
It’s like a small apartment complex within the unit. Everyone shares the kitchen. There is a small common area where there is a kitchen table to eat and a couch as well.
It is everyone’s joint responsibility to clean the common areas including kitchen and bathrooms, and while there is not a strict cleaning schedule, taking initiative is encouraged to keep the toilets, showers, sinks, kitchen, floors clean for everyone.
The space is designed to maximize living space while not overcrowding.
The requirements for the house are to be a reliable payer, willing to take initiative to help clean the common areas of kitchen, bathrooms, floors, and your own space. Respectful person who is a high functioning adult and get along with others. Everyone has their own schedule so it’s a little bit of a free for all. It’s not a friendly or unfriendly house. Everyone’s mostly doing their own thing.
Month to month agreement with the flexibility to stay as long as you’d like and move out the same day and receive back a prorated amount.
There is street parking only for this property. There are parking places in all directions depending on the time of day. You may have to park 1-2 blocks away at times if you can’t find a spot near the house. Also, you will need to watch street sweeping signs to not get a ticket.
Central location. Close to public transportation of trains and trolley about 2 blocks down.
Laundry on first floor garage. 1 washer and dryer shared with everyone.
$600 a month plus shared utilities.
The total utilities of water, electric, wifi, and trash is added up, divided, and split up by the amount of people living here. This is to spread the costs so it is more reasonable per person and to keep people accountable and incentivized not to abuse utilities and turn off the lights, not over use water, etc. This payment can vary. It is usually between $80 to $100 per person though.
$250 deposit.
If you are interested, please start your response to me with “I think this house is a fit for me, I am a fit as well, and I would like to speak further about possibly moving in at this time.” So I know you have read this post and understand.
About the roomies
Most people living here are working professionals in their 20’s to 50’s.
Often people are busy working, not home, sometimes out of town or with their boyfriend/girlfriend/partner elsewhere so it still stays quiet and doesn’t get overcrowded. Bathrooms have never been a constraint and enough usage for everyone.
