About the room

It’s a 100+ year old historic home on the east side of Detroit. It’s pretty but needs some expected maintenance. Your room is upstairs, as is the bathroom, so it is unfortunately not accessible (16 stairs to get to the toilet and around 18 to get to the basement laundry).

I am seeking a single adult roommate without kids or pets. I am transgender and need a roommate who is ok with this. I am only open to connecting with platonic roommates, and will not respond to inquiries that suggest any other type of connection or arrangement. I generally mesh best with women, trans people, and femme-presenting folks, but that’s not a hard line.

There is a second, smaller bedroom onsite (no closet in that room). I’d be open to living with someone who has a teen or older child, but young children, toddlers, and infants are not a good fit for me to live with.

If you are hoping to rent both rooms, I will increase the asking rent price from $500 / month to $750 / month.

About the roomies

Just me and my (well-trained) dog! I’m an abolitionist social worker and trauma therapist who does community organizing on the side. I’m home a lot, but typically am quiet, and rarely have more than one guest over at a time. I don’t mind if you have overnight guests every now and then, but prefer it doesn’t turn into an every-night, unofficial roommate situation.

I am expecting to receive a second (service) dog within the next 12 months or so, which means my ideal roommate does not have pets. My dog is very friendly with basically all people, but we are not open to additional dogs or cats in the house. If you have a pet that lives in a tank or cage full time (Like a guinea pig or a fish or a turtle), we can probably work something out.
