About the room

Looking for housemates ( 35yo+ but I’m not a purist if you’re younger and have an old soul) to share an urban permaculture home near Hentzel Park in southeast Denver. Ideal for folks who love nature, community, and cooperative living.

I’m looking for 2-4 housemates (2 rooms available - couples and kids welcome) to share an aspiring urban permaculture home within walking distance of Hentzel Park in southeast Denver. If you’re excited about nature, community, and cooperative living, this might be a good fit.

About the Location & Neighborhood

The house is a short walk from a beautiful nature space in Hentzel Park, with two different waterfalls and walking/biking trails. The Cherry Creek bike path is right nearby and can take you:

About 11 miles downstream to downtown Denver About 3 miles upstream to the Cherry Creek State Park Reservoir

It’s a great spot if you like biking, walking, or just having easy access to green space. The Garden & Outdoor Space

I’ve been tending a model/experimental permaculture garden on the property. It includes:

A crabapple guild; Classic medicinal perennials like nettles, comfrey, lovage, and goji berries; Culinary and medicinal plants like chives, sage, and borage

If you’re curious about permaculture, food forests, or regenerative gardening, you’ll probably love this space.

Rooms & Rent There are two private basement bedrooms available: $600 each Or $1200 for both rooms together (ideal for a couple, small family, or two friends)

Details: The two rooms share a bathroom with a shower between them. I use a separate bathroom upstairs, so the basement bathroom is primarily for the people renting those rooms Entrance, laundry, and kitchen are shared There is a large shared living space downstairs that is only used by the people in the two rentable rooms (not by me on a daily basis)

Maximum household setup for the basement would be up to 4 people total in those two rooms (for example, two couples or individuals with kids).

Community & Living Style This is not just a “room for rent” situation; I’m looking for people who want to live in community and be good neighbors to each other. Living in an urban permaculture community here means:

Applying permaculture principles to city life Caring for land, water, and each other Sharing some resources and responsibilities Being open to conversation, feedback, and collaborative problem-solving

This can look like: Helping tend the garden or simply respecting it as a shared ecosystem; Sharing tools, knowledge, and occasional meals (if that feels good to everyone); Being mindful about energy, water, and waste.

Ideal housemates are: Respectful, kind, and communicative Interested in some level of connection (not total isolation) Open to cooperative living and clear boundaries Comfortable with kids and families potentially sharing the basement space (if both rooms are rented) Older adults 35+ but I’m not a purist if you’re younger and have an old soul.

Key challenges in any community living situation can include group dynamics, conflict, and boundaries between private and shared spaces. I value clear communication, consent, and repair when things get messy. If that resonates with you, we’ll probably get along. If You’re Interested

When you reach out, it’s helpful if you share: A bit about who you are and what draws you to this kind of living Whether you’re interested in one room or both Your ideal move-in date and length of stay Happy to answer questions and set up a time for you to see the space and get a feel for the house, garden, and neighborhood.

About the roomies

I’m Ryan, an educator, re‑wilding practitioner, and long-time Denver human (born here with ancestors from Wisconsin via Ireland and Michigan&New York via Holland) a who’s happiest when life is a mix of community, creativity, and time outside. Professionally:

I’ve been teaching and facilitating ecological literacy for over 25 years with young people ages 3–18, and working with adults in school leadership and community organizing for the last 15. I hold a Colorado Secondary Science Teaching License (since 2004) with an English Language Learner endorsement, a Master of Science in Ecological Teaching and Learning (2011), and I’m a director/coach certified with the Colorado Department of Early Education (2021). Right now, most of my energy is going into Mycelium Cooperative, a multi-generational, regenerative futures learning community that blends outdoor education, justice, and cooperative economics. Personally:

I’m very much a “wilderness and city both/and” person. Some of the things that light me up:

Archery elk hunting and time in deep wilderness Biking as a way of life (not just recreation) Ultimate frisbee and underwater hockey (yes, it’s a real thing) Wandering through nearby nature spaces just to see what’s blooming, moving, or changing Live music and community singing Fiber arts and slow, hands-on making

I’ve thought of myself as “re‑wilding” since I was about three years old. I care a lot about the interweaving of life and organizing for climate justice in the middle of the human‑induced Sixth Mass Extinction. That shows up in how I garden, how I teach, and how I try to show up as a housemate: paying attention, communicating clearly, and doing my best to live in a way that supports more life, not less. Day-to-day, I’m pretty grounded and low-drama: I value clear agreements, shared care for the space, and a home that feels welcoming, calm, and alive.
