I have a FURNISHED bedroom available starting end of July in my apartment on Cortelyou near Coney Island Ave. I also have a reference from someone who rented this room with us recently if you’d like a reference! I’ve living in this apartment since 2018 and have strong connections to the neighborhood. Please note, the dinosaur toy in the pictures is not included (kiddo wanted me to make sure to say that!)
I’m a queer woman in my early 40s with an 11 yo son who I coparent with a non-local father. We are early to bed (around 8:30/9pm), early to rise (4:00 am for me, 6:00 pm for kiddo). We leave around 7am or so to go to school/work.
I am up doing Duolingo and working out from 4-6am but I’m quiet. We are rarely home during the day on weekdays (I work in-person) and are often out of town on weekends during the summer and usually away at least 1-2 weekends during the school year so ideal for someone who works from home during the day. No pets (other than Mr. T, our turtle).
Bedroom has twin bed with very nice mattress with (18” riser) for lots of under bed storage as well as a desk and large cubby wall unit. Ceiling fan. Big window looks out onto a tree - 3rd floor.
No problem with occasional overnight guests - but it is a twin bed so maybe ideal if you have a honey you enjoy spending overnights in their space.
Open to shorter term stay but would strongly prefer to find the right fit for longer stay (until end of summer 2026 or longer ideally)!
No pets. No vaping/smoking (I’m 420 friendly, just not in the apartment, pls!). I don’t drink but have no objection to responsible alcohol consumption in the apartment.
We are tidy and generally neat but not uptight/fanatical. You’d have your own shelf in the fridge and shared use of all the dishes and cooking stuff. There is a big 5’ long shelf that is 16” tall for your use in the entry closet, too. We eat everything so not ideal if you want a vegan kitchen space. Shared cleaning of living room, kitchen, bathroom.
Laundry in basement. Elevator building. Shared bathroom with tub and AMAZING water pressure! Shared large living room. Dishwasher. Streaming services (Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Amazon Prime) on smart TV (not guaranteed with rent - subject to change in the future but welcome to use what we have), but we do not have cable.
$850/month includes (electric & internet).
I’m an attorney in the court system and I’m very passionate about sustainability - my passion project is turning reclaimed fabric off-cut waste from the fashion industry into custom lingerie and swimwear. I’m a trail ultramarathon runner and have a treadmill that I use every morning but I’m told it’s very quiet but probably not a great situation if you’re a super light sleeper. I love traveling and my Buy Nothing community. I’m learning Portugese. I get excited to see how people creatively tackle waste problems. I love documentaries and Fast & Furious (guilty pleasure!) I’m a huge fan of Indigo Girls, Odette, Langhorne Slim, Florence and the Machine and Andrew Bird and anything involving a harmonica. I listen to podcasts constantly (headphones! You don’t have to listen along!).
Kiddo is starting middle school. He loves Lego, Godzilla, reading anything about dragons and cooking.
We love to share what we cook! We also love to share communal dinner, movie nights and game/craft activities. Really want to find a fit where everyone feels like community! Must want to cultivate a communal vibe. Don’t want to be strangers passing in the night but also good at respecting boundaries when you need quiet/alone time. I prefer open communication so anything that starts to feel “sticky” gets problem-solved BEFORE it becomes a “thing” so ideal if you are ok just speaking up! I really want everyone to feel safe and secure - it is a home for all of us!
Occasionally (maybe once a month, I go away for the weekend and my coparent comes and stays in my room with kiddo in a nesting arrangement - he’s a lovely human and very respectful and we have a wonderful family dynamic - no drama etc). Maybe 2-3x a year we do this for a week long period. Kiddo spends more time away during the summer visiting grandparents out of town etc. So basically we aren’t around all the time.
