About the room

A small farmhouse with 6 acres of land, two horses, an old red barn, pecan trees and plenty of garden space. We’re starting an orchard and a longleaf pine savannah restoration project.

About the roomies

Please read our description before asking if the room is available.

We’re two former wanderers (botanist and ecologist), who’ve settled in a peaceful spot just outside Tallahassee. After years of living in various intentional communities, we’ve created a place that feels right to us. We’re looking for someone (or maybe a couple) to share this home with us. We spend our days working (remotely or in Tallahassee), gardening, doing projects around the farm, taking care of the horses, bicycling, and exploring the woods nearby. Evenings often find us cooking vegan food together or sitting on the porch talking about everything from climate policy to sci-fi novels.

A few things matter a lot to us in a roommate:

  • We’re progressive folks in a conservative area. Having housemates who share somewhere to the left of center values is critical.
  • We’ve learned from past community living that honest, direct conversation works best when conflicts arise. No silent treatment or passive-aggressive behavior.
  • Exceptional dogs that don’t ever bark or jump on people might be ok, but otherwise are too much for us.

Bonuses:

  • You might be interested in looking after our horses occasionally when we travel (we’d pay you, of course)
  • You appreciate the art of creative reuse and freeganism
  • You enjoy hikes, plant identification, or other outdoor activities
  • You commute to Tallahassee and might want to share rides in our electric car
  • We value sharing meals together. Having someone who enjoys cooking (and eating!) would make this place feel more like a community.

We are sharing our home, so we are looking for people we would like to have a friendly relationship with, not just someone who can pay the rent. Please tell us about yourself, any common interests we have, and why this is appealing to you.
