About the room

Hello!

I am looking for someone to bring good vibes into our shared apartment – Do you value healthy living, creativity, and kindness? Are you up for our looking out for each other, including keeping our common areas tidy generally? Are you gay or gay-friendly? Are you ready to live in an especially nice apartment, and do you have the means to pay for something above the minimum? Do you like the East Village, and want to be on a quiet side street walking distance from all the fun?

Come live with me in a six-story beautifully restored East Village building with two private outdoor spaces. With an easy commute to midtown or downtown, the apartment is centrally located but on a calm residential street. The roof deck garden is a serene oasis in the middle of the city–great for recharging.

The available bedroom has high ceilings, shelves, a walk-in closet, a queen-size bed (bought just two years ago, but you could also bring your own bed if you prefer), and a view of the Williamsburg bridge.

The apartment is in a gorgeous co-op on a quiet side street in heart of East Village. It is fully renovated and well maintained, with new hardwood floors, exposed brick, and architectural doors and shades. The place is flooded with light, airy and cheerful, with views of the downtown skyline.

Unfortunately, the lovely guy who has been my roommate since last year is moving out to live with his girlfriend. (I’m happy for him, of course). My preference is to sign a year-long lease with you, though a six-month lease is another possibility, depending on circumstances.

Available for move-in on April 1.

Upstairs are the two bedrooms and the main bathroom, while downstairs are the living room, kitchen, and second bathroom. The layout with spiral staircase gives both privacy and spaciousness that make the apartment feel very homey.

Because of the building’s private roof deck and garden, this apartment offers the opportunity –unusual in Manhattan—to enjoy private outdoor space alone or have friends over for a sunset cocktail party. It’s a small building, so often you can have all to yourself the roof deck with its 360-degree views or the building’s private landscaped garden.

Commute to Midtown East, Times Square, or World Trade Center by bike in 20 min, 30 min by subway. There are four CitiBike stations within 5 min walk, and it is under 15 min walk to L, J, M, Z, 4, 5, 6, and F train, under 20 min walk to B, D, R, & W trains.

In the heart of the East Village, the pre-war 13-unit co-op is steps away from dozens of hip restaurants, bars, and cafes, as well as a Target, multiple grocery stores, and Tompkins Square Park. The Lower East Side, Union Square, Nolita, West Village, Gramercy, and SoHo are all close at hand, as are tennis courts, a track, and a running trail and park along the East River.

Features: • 2 bathrooms, one with shower & tub • Washer/dryer inside unit (yes!) • Windows in every room with southern & eastern exposures (and effective shades!) • Landscaped garden with Koi pond • Huge furnished roof deck with views of Empire State on one side and World Trade on the other—plus a communal herb garden (You can harvest herbs to cook with!) • Gas grills, furniture, and lighting in both outdoor spaces for entertaining • Microwave, garbage disposal, gas oven & range • High speed Fios Wifi • Cable TV outlet in bedroom and living room • Home theater with surround sound & mounted projector • Wireless printer/ scanner • High ceilings and skylight • Video intercom & buzzer for building access • Large walk-in closet in available bedroom

In your inquiry, please say something about yourself, your life situation, and a few times when you are available to see the apartment. I am into languages and cultures, and so welcome non-native English speakers. We could speak Arabic, German, French, Italian, or Spanish together. Americans who only speak English are also most welcome :)

Sharing a living space with the right person can make life a little more enjoyable! Definitely looking for someone who is honest, considerate, responsible, friendly, and financially secure.

No tobacco or drug use in the apartment (though smoking on the roof is easy). No pets (fish or plants welcome!) or couples (though overnight guests are a-ok).

About Me I am an extrovert, a coffee hound, and a wine drinker. I read the New York Times every day, I am a social entrepreneur, and I am an active volunteer in a non-profit that offers support and companionship to people in prison and in their transition back to life outside of prison. My work is as an executive coach, leadership development consultant, humanities scholar, and writer, so books abound in the apartment and I spend my work time largely in libraries and cafes, using home primarily for rest, food, and leisure, plus video calls a few times a week. Cooking, movies, jogging, swimming, traveling, hiking, and meeting new people are some of my favorite pastimes. I’m an American and Italian citizen, and have also lived in Egypt and the Gulf for more than 5 years of my adult life. I bought this apartment 5 years ago, completely renovated it to make it a lovely homey respite in the midst of this big city that I love.
