We live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house here in Crown Point. The master bedroom and bath are available starting April 27. A couple had been renting two bedrooms and using one as a bedroom and the other as a TV/hangout spot. They found another sweet spot in PB and are leaving the nest to fly on their own. I found a great guy to fill one room in early April, so now we are looking to fill the second. The bedroom measures 10ft x 12.5ft, has a private bathroom, and is $1290 per month. The property owner has increased rent each of the past several years, typically June 1. Last year it was about 9% (Oof!), FYI. Utilities (internet and electric) generally run $40-60 per person per month. The security deposit is $1300, pets are not allowed, and no smoking inside. The lease is month to month (with 30 days’ notice), but we are looking for someone who anticipates being here a year or more. There is an application process with the owner that will include a credit and background check.
The house has a full kitchen, a dinette area, and a large living room, which are all connected in one open space. We also have our own washing and drying machine. Woohoo! The common space is furnished, but your bedroom is not (desk and clothes rack in photo are available). If you have furniture or decor that you’d like to incorporate in the common space, I’m open to some redecorating. The house has a long driveway that can hold 3 cars. Typically, street parking is not a problem and we only park two in the drive. The neighborhood is quiet, and we are just 1/2 of a mile from Crown Point Park and the path that goes around the bay. Vons and Trader Joe’s are less than a mile away, and there is easy access to the 5 and 8. It’s a great spot!
In terms of atmosphere, we keep things mellow. We prioritize the house as a place to take care of the basics first: eat, sleep, rest and recover. It’s home base. It’s important to feel at-ease here, and feeling together with my housemates is an important part of that for me. We like chatting and catching up in the evenings. When I am worn out, I often retreat to my room. I think having space for alone time is important too. It’s nice to have people over from time to time. I try to be considerate and communicative about it and expect the same. Since the common areas are all one space, it’s more important than other places I have lived to check in with everyone for that sort of thing.
We are looking for a housemate who is interested in coming together as a group. Since it will be 3 people coming together for the first time (Zane and I have only lived together for a week), it is important to Zane and I that we make a point of doing something together frequently, 1/week maybe. We hope that will help build rapport and keep communication flowing. The house is a shared space, and it is not big, so its important to be mindful of each other and work together to make the space work for all of us. I think building that sort of dynamic takes some intention and effort, so I am looking for someone who is down to dedicate some energy to get that going.
