About the room
Have you ever wanted to participate in a meaningful way in the creation of community? The Persimmon house is a brand new intentional community house right next to the beautiful Lake Merritt by downtown Oakland! A recently renovated Victorian, The Persimmon House is a six bedroom, three bathroom, with two large downstairs rooms currently available. Rooms are available either furnished or unfurnished. The home features in unit washer dryer, basement storage, new kitchen appliances, and funky art and furnishings in the common areas. Rent for both rooms recently reduced to $1060 for the fireplace room, and $980 for the heart of the home room (room with couch and double doors). Utilities, WiFi, and a monthly professional cleaning service are included for a flat rate of $140. In the new year the owners have committed to installing an outdoor six-person sauna, as well as fencing in the front yard to increase the private yard space available! While the yard is a work in progress, we are open to input and creative ideas for how to make it a wonderful outdoor space. The Persimmon House hopes to create a community minded home, which values inclusivity, open-mindedness, connection, personal growth, and family vibes. We hope to bring in members who are open to participating in shared chores, and regular house meetings and events as well! The owners are kindly contributing $500 per year towards community oriented events Rental terms available are flexible, with month to month, six month, or twelve month available depending on your needs.
About the roomies
The Current Tenants are: Briana, 29 She/her, : Bay Area Native with a passion for travel. Some of Brianaโs favorite destinations include Colombia, Spain and Hawaii, She enjoys activities like yoga, hiking, and taking leisurely walks around Lake Merritt. She is a self described morning person and goes to bed early ass well. Briana works remotely as a linguist in tech, and she also spends a significant amount of time working from the office as well as coffee shops/ In her free time shes loves having morning chats over a cup of coffee or playing board games. Hannah, 32, she/her, (Moves in end of Feb) : CA native originally from SoCal, but have called Oakland home for the last 6 years. She works at a non-profit doing workers rightโs advocacy. Hannah previously worked as a union organizer, so shes always keeping track of the latest unionization efforts. When she is not working, she can be found coxing a crew team on Alameda estuary, hanging out with friends, or binge-watching the latest thing on TV. Hannah is a big fan of game nights and dinners with friends! Noah, 32: He/ Him (thatโs me!): Iโm the community ambassador at Persimmon House, I have lived in shared/community housing my entire adult life, and as a recovering nomad, have lived and traveled around the world. For work I am an Event EMT, Safety Instructor, and own and operate a small landscaping and home maintenance company, and looking forward to starting a new job in tourism this spring! In my free time I enjoy hiking, backpacking, biking, snowboarding, acroyoga, live music and events, road trips, gardening, DIY, cooking, and reading. Will (28, he/him): Bay-area native working in solar energy. I used to be a teacher though (3 years in Oakland, one in Spain), so always good for a funny student story if you want it. When Iโm not enjoying long walks on the beach, I spend my free time doing some combination of: reading, backpacking, disc golf, pickleball, writing, pickling, and going to concerts.
