About the room

First floor master bedroom in a clean, pretty quiet 6-unit building. The room for rent has a closet and is fully private and lockable. Lively Latino neighborhood, adjacent to the El Punto Urban Art mural museum. 5 minute walk to downtown Salem, 15 minute walk to MBTA station (30 min to Boston North Station). Excellent non-profit grocery store on the adjacent block, lots of convenience stores. 90% of Salem’s best restaurants are a stroll away. 1 block from Lafayette, which means frequent bus service. 20 minute walk to Salem State U. 5 blocks from the ocean. Shared kitchen stocked with spices and semi-professional cookware, plus dishwasher. Shared full bathroom with bathtub and shower. Always reasonably clean. Coin-op laundry downstairs, backup laundromat 2 blocks away. Utilities included. Street parking only.

About the roomies

Roommates are #1) middle-aged-but-active male human professional, and #1a) young male feline (cat) professional, whose profession is keeping the apartment vermin-free and providing amusement. The cat is fluffy, affectionate with people, and sometimes talkative, although he has a soft voice. I (the human) am generally quiet, and work online at home as a teacher, along with the occasional side-gig as a chef (pop-up kitchens and events). I’m a well-educated (UCLA), super-chill sci-fi/D&D nerd who is a recently divorced (it’s all cool) dad with a daughter in college. I’m LGBTQ+-friendly, herb-friendly, and OK with drinking as long as it’s considerate. (No tobacco smoking inside the building, so ain’t my business.) I generally keep to myself, although if you like conversations, I’m a world traveler and veteran Burning Man attendee, so I certainly have tons of good stories and unique contexts. Although I rarely invite people over (except my daughter), I’m not anti-social, so go ahead invite your friends and party on, as long as all’s quiet by 2AM. In those cases, I’ll probably come out and join the conversations, plus cook something for everyone. I work with young people all day, so I won’t cringe out your friends unless they’re ageist. Sleepovers are fine, as long as you gimme a heads-up. Ex-Microsoft, I’m great at computer tech because I helped invent it. I love video gaming. I’m very handy with repairs and renovations, and have a good set of tools. In conflicts, I prefer emotionless discourse and hashing things out logically.
