About the room

Private room with a full size bed and mattress (the previous person left that) in a 3 bed/1 bath apartment. Roommates are two women in their 30s, and the apartment is located in a very safe and hip neighborhood accessible by MBTA.

$522 per month for a private furnished room from Jan 15-March 31 (sublet)

About $80 per month for utilities, including gas, electric, and WiFi

$1.50 for a washer and $1.50 for a dryer next door (coin operated). You can get quarters by withdrawing cash from your debit card at the grocery store and asking for quarters instead.

Within walking distance of the MBTA, a grocery store, Dollar Tree, pharmacies, mom and pop restaurants/fast food, and parks

Bedding:

I can leave my blanket behind, but it’s not that thick (not that thin either). I bought it for $6 on Temu. Cookies pillows just large enough for someone’s head (each). Also bought on Temu for $2 (not $2.99). If you want to purchase pillows and a comforter, there’s a department store nearby.

I can leave my small heat pad. The pad isn’t too warm. I’ll wash the blanket, bed sheets, and pillows before I leave. Just warning you that there are blood stains on the mattress from the previous person. It was a woman’s room, so it’s just menstrual blood. The yellow stains is from me putting turmeric on the mattress and vacuuming it. I thought I saw a bed bug and did that to suffocate them. Also washed all my bedding on a weekly basis with hot water and dried on high heat. There was probably no bed bugs. It’s been months, and I haven’t had any issues. But just to be safe, I cleaned the mattress using a steamer.

I also like to hang dry my clothes by the window. It’s a stainless steel clothes hanger with many clamps for wet laundry. There’s a dry cleaner down the street if you need to your clothes professionally cleaned, but you can also use my steamer. There are various inserts for different uses. Just be careful as the vapor is very hot, and be sure to read the instructions (for example, adding water and letting it heat up). There are instructions to release the steam slowly or something.

Cooking:

I can leave my rice cooker too, but you have to be careful with the bottom of the cooker as the electrical wires aren’t fully enclosed.

I can leave my small butcher knife. It works for me because my hands are small. I don’t think my roommates will mind if you use the pots and pans and knives in the kitchen.

I wouldn’t drink the water straight out of the tap in Boston.

The RICE COOKER and MUG WARMER do not shut off automatically. I repeat: they DO NOT SHUT OFF automatically. You have to turn them off. I usually make sure they’re off after I use them. And when I leave, I turn off the two extensions too.

Workspace:

Many libraries in the Boston/Cambridge area. If you need to get work done, there’s a library nearby. Two depending on how far you’re willing to walk. There’s also the Copley Library near downtown Boston.

Boston has a lot of WeWork offices too even in the Seaport if you want to shop at Trader Joe’s instead of Star Market (aka Shaws) and go to the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater ($30 monthly, second month free. $1.89 per booking. They serve food too).

Toiletries:

We also have a wall of toilet paper, so you don’t need to worrying about buying toilet paper, which is kinda pricey here. I ordered 30 units of 4 rolls on Dollar Tree when they had free delivery, and we all split it (about $1.50 for a 4 roll pack).

If you’re interested, send me a message me. We can chat and find a time for you to see the place and meet my roommates. If everything works out, you can fill out the application with LJ Realty.

About the roomies

Two women in their 30s (one is Caucasian American and the other is African American). Everyone mostly just keeps to themselves. We don’t monitor each other’s guests either (usually boyfriends, friends, and occasionally family members visiting for the holidays). Just be respectful.

I won’t be living there, but if you run into any trouble or have questions about the Boston/Cambridge area, please let me know!
