About the room

Offered: Room for Rent in Petaluma - $900/month +Utilites (approx $150/month) - Remote Work Available - Partially Furnished

One of our housemates is moving out, and we’re looking for someone (one person) to replace her and carry on the tradition of peace and tranquility in our Petaluma shared housing situation. Our home is located in the Adobe neighborhood of East Petaluma near Lucchesi Park. We’re a 10-minute walk from the Petaluma Farmer’s Market, which happens every Tuesday. We’re also a quick 5-minute drive to Trader Joe’s and Starbucks.

The Room: It’s a regular-sized unfurnished room that measures 11 ft by 10.5 ft (115 sq ft). It has a closet, dresser, nightstand, a queen bed, and additional storage space. You’ll share your bathroom with one rather tidy housemate. It’s a room, and it’s decent. It’s also single occupancy only, with some allowance for occasional overnight guests.

The Home: Ideal for someone who enjoys a combination of working hard and relaxation when the workday is done. You’ll share a five-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2.1K sqft home built in the mid-1980s with four other housemates and three (3) cats. While the house is not contemporary, it’s also not too old. The collective here is pretty loose-knit, with one (1) female, three (3) males, and three (3) cats. The age range is in the 30s to 50s with mature, responsible adults. Some housemates you’ll bump into every day, and others you’ll seldom see. The homeowner also lives offsite, which can have its benefits and drawbacks.

You’ll have free use of the common areas, which include the kitchen, living room, washer/dryer, backyard, and hot tub.

Everyone is pretty neat and good at cleaning up after themselves. You’ll be expected to have the habit of cleaning up after yourself mastered before you move in.

The household will accommodate a work-from-home situation if you don’t see clients on-site. However, what you do will need to be contained in your space.

The images of the room show it partially furnished. The bed is a queen, which gives you an idea of the size.

*** This is definitely a make-yourself-at-home room-share situation that is open to remote work. This arrangement is a great deal compared to other more stringent home shares in the area. ***

The Area: This section of Petaluma is super quiet, with a river trail right across the street. You can hear frogs and owls at night if you’re out walking.

The Terms: We’re looking for a longer 6-month lease term. However, we’ll also consider month-to-month. The rent is $900 a month, and utilities are not included. The utilities are usually around $150 a month for PG&E, water, and garbage. Xfinity high-speed internet is an additional $15/month. The move-in finances are a $900 deposit plus a $150 utility prepayment and $900 for the first month’s rent, so $1950 total move-in costs.

The Search: We’re conducting phone screenings and in-person interviews now for a March 1st move-in. If you pass our vibe test and we all feel it’s a good fit, you’ll get to register for a background check, which includes a search for criminal records and a credit report. However, we’re more interested in any criminal history, and if your credit is shaky, be able to explain why. You’ll also need to supply proof of employment, proof of income, and recent rental history. The background check will cost you around $50, and we’ll conduct that as a final step so no one pays unnecessary expenses.

DM me if you are interested, and include a little bit about yourself and what you’re looking for in a shared housing situation. Please read the ad completely and ask good questions if you have any.

Internet is extra, and everyone pays $15/month.

Good luck with your search!
