About the room

Utilities and other costs:PG&E bill, House dues are $500/mo per adult. The dues cover a food plan that is meant to meet everyone’s needs, all utilities, maintenance, monthly cleaners, and other house amenities. There is an additional $400/mo fee for an adult sharing a room (or $150/mo for a child sharing a room).

Pet policy: Has pets, but does not accept more

More about pets:Bodhi is a loyal companion, adopted in a frenzy on the day that shelter-in-place was announced. 4/10 cuddler but 7/10 for effort.

Toshi is a 3-year old goldendoodle who loves playing fetch, belly scratches, and befriending kids. Sage (cat): Parents are Bill and Hilary. Stays on the garden floor.

There are no plans to accept additional pets at this time. If at some point it is considered, any new pets must get along with existing pets and fit with the household.

Details about logistics and neighborhood:Our neighborhood has easy walking access to the panhandle park, kids playgrounds, and large green spaces. We value balancing city life and bountiful access to nature.

Philosophy:We believe that humans aren’t meant to live – or raise kids – in isolation. We strive to live interconnected with each other and with the communities around us. That’s why we’re putting “it takes a village” into practice. Our house is a mini-village where people come together to share the highs and the lows of living together and raising the next generation.

Governance: Most house communication happens on Slack, where there are many channels. There is one important channel, #village_important, that everyone is expected to read regularly; community decisions can take place on this channel without waiting for responses from everyone.

Other details: We live in a sunlit Edwardian house overlooking the panhandle near Golden Gate Park. The house was completely renovated in 2014 (All the interiors are new! Double-paned windows!) Our house has 18 bedrooms, 3 kitchens, and 9 bathrooms divided equally among 3 flats. We have a kids playroom, adult tea room / quiet zone, and a multi-purpose room with exercise equipment and craft supplies. We have a backyard with seating, a firepit, and many well-loved plants. Although the house has 3 separate flats, all members move freely between all 3 floors. We operate as one cohesive community. Looking for 2+ rooms? 🤔 The bottom 4 rooms (Garden, Sunshine, Cave & Teeny) are all on the same floor. The rent starts at $750/mo, making them ideal for a couple, family or someone looking for a bedroom + office combo.

About the roomies

Vibes and residents: Cami has turned her room into a fantastical wonderland and from it writes tales of magic and adventure that come in the shape of comics and novels. She loves bright colors, skipping around the house, making terrible Dad jokes, and has an insatiable sweet tooth. She is also a (retired) harpist, and has taken up several new hobbies in the meantime including (but not limited to, and which are subject to change): roller skating, swing dancing, aquarium tending, and mural painting.

Brynn (4) has not fallen far from the tree and can be described in a single word which is sparklerainbow. (Unicorn is also appropriate.) She loves everything shiny, sparkly, princessy, and also wriggly, squirmy bugs.

Anna loves art, growing plants, hiking, design and deep connections with others. She runs her own creative e-commerce company here in SF. She did not live communally until her mid 30’s. After many lonely years of chasing the dream of “having her own place,” she has finally embraced communal living, and is much happier as a result!

Derek is a recovering digital nomad, having traveled and worked from 30+ countries. He’s done multiple meditation retreats, and often thinks about the far future of humanity (among other philosophical thoughts).

Hilary believes in living her values for a more just, fun, and collaborative world through community living. When she’s not working as a professional dumpster diver/zero waste policy advocate for the City of SF, she’ll likely have her hands dirty involved in one of her many nurturing hobbies–beekeeping, composting, gardening, or mushroom hunting.

Bill can usually be found reading, working his dream job helping Google with their mad-science effort to build a quantum computer, or making (secretly serious) jokes about buying a mansion and starting a cult. He scored a perfect 50/50 on the introvert scale but he loves being around people in the right dosage. He plays Dungeons and Dragons and hopes that you might too.

River (born May 2021) spends most of his time sleeping and making spit bubbles. He’s way more drawn to beer cans than any baby should be. Recently started walking, much to the delight and terror of his parents.

Evy (rhymes with heavy) has been wanting to live with children in community for as long as they can remember. They really enjoy thinking about how people interact with others and themselves, which has led them to things like non-monogamy and spending six months reading a selection of writings on community houses and the bay area co-op scene. After moving to San Francisco in 2018, they ended a 12-year streak of choral singing, and really miss the feeling of their body resonating in harmony with other bodies. They love writing (much of it posted on https://evy.garden), lists, creating amateur art, challenging binaries, spreadsheets, hugs, talking about feelings, and being very silly.

Ping joined The Village after many years of living in co-ops in the East Bay, including the Berkeley Student Cooperative system. He is often excited about democracy, humanitarian relief, nonviolent communication, paragliding, crow intelligence, interactive art, public transportation, shenanigans, spreadsheets, travel, languages, and music theory.

Becca loves channeling the cosmos through her ecstatic dances. She can often be found eating castelvetrano olives and teaching mathematics.

Cristina is a bibliophile with a passion for understanding the brain, other humans and what it means to live a good life. It’s her first time at the rodeo of community living and is excited to learn from the experience. Her favorite things include making others laugh, long hugs, and hanging out in the golden gate park.

Alex is a nerdy, silly, vegan data scientist who cares about effective altruism and contributing positively to the world. He loves deep conversations, loooong strategy board games (the longer and more complicated the better, really), talking philosophy, and considers himself a “quiet extravert”. He hangs out a lot at The Center and The Commons, and is down to eat almost any vegan dessert you hand him.

Yevgeny (yev-GHEH-knee) likes to wear many metaphorical hats in addition to physical ones. Some of his favorites include: Physicist, engineer, Irish dancer, cyclist, psychodynamic & somatic counselor, cuddler, astronomer, nonmonogamous partner, vegan, pilot, musician, photographer, and dad-joke-no-one-asked-for vending machine. When he’s not chin-deep in equations or bringing transistors to life in his mysterious mad science dungeon, he looks for ways to deepen connections between humans. He feels happiest gathering people together to co-create and is genetically unable to go more than 5 minutes without saying something silly. If you ever hear baroque music coming out the back of a bike, wave and say hello!

Common interests:We bring more joy and ease to life by sharing cooking, adventures, babysitting, teaching, late nights telling stories, shoulders to cry on, and everything in between. We aim to raise kids together rather than exasperated and alone, and we dream of being like family to each other’s kids. We know that the whole can be more than the sum of its parts and we’re putting that into action.
