Seeking a roommate or two in an Albany house very close to the Berkeley border, and easy walking and cycling distance to North Berkeley BART and other good things. I hope to find others who are interested in creating cohousing or a real estate co-op and in a progressive household. Updates not shown in the images include the removal of the kitchen island, a heat pump heating system, transition of the house from natural gas to electric and upgrades to the electrical system. Soon we’ll have a new range and hood. No WiFi. Ethernet has been run to the rooms. I try to get people with similar schedules who want to retire to their rooms for sleep or quiet activities by 11pm and who don’t have a huge need to use the kitchen before 8am. Generally I tell people quiet hours begin at 10:00pm.
Depending on the evolution of the house, there should be some possibilities for at least shared staples. I’m not a neatnik and am not offended by books and papers being left about. The important thing is some agreement over what’s comfortable and what’s not.
Room #1: About 12x12, with hardwood flooring. Shares the better bathroom with Room #2. Room includes an old but serviceable dresser that can be removed. The electricity in the room was just modernized. This room is $1100 per month. That includes utilities, Ethernet, and Roku streaming TV.
Room #2: About 12x12, with minty green carpet and yellow-painted wall paneling. This room is off the kitchen. I estimate the ceiling as 9’ perhaps. I anticipate updating the floor and walls to hardwood and sheetrock within a year. This room is $1000 per month. This includes utilities, Ethernet, and Roku streaming TV.
Shared areas include the living room and kitchen, which are more than twice the size of rooms #1 and #2. I hope to equip both shared areas with ample tables or other comforts for writing, study, or project space. You’ll share the better bathroom with one person. We use Ethernet (faster, more secure, less interference); no WiFi. Miele washer and dryer in the back bathroom. I can teach you how to use the espresso machine depending on what we work out. If you like the coffee I use, you may also be able to use the grinder (espresso grinders are not made to switch back and forth between beans).
