Virginia Avenue

The house is in Frogtown in St Paul, which I am in the process of buying. It’s a cute 3 BR/1.5 bath. Outside there is a new deck front porch, a long driveway, a 1-car garage (which I will be using, but we can coordinate use of the driveway in a way that we can both get out when we need to). The back yard is small and fenced with some garden beds, an in-ground fire pit, and a patio where I will have a grill.

Inside there is a living room, dining room, and good sized kitchen with a breakfast bar. There is also a den/office space with the washer/dryer (on the main floor) and 1/2 bath. Upstairs are three bedrooms (mine, yours, and a guest room that will hopefully be a kid room someday soon) and a full bathroom with soaking tub/shower. The basement is very small and unfinished, mostly for utilities and storage. I’m looking at $825/month but happy to discuss and negotiate. I’ll cover water and trash, we’ll split internet, gas, and electric. I have some furniture for main spaces, but you’d need a bed and we can talk about incorporating both of our things.

I would be your only housemate at the moment. I work full-time plus, often from the office but usually 1 day a week from home as well. I also work a lot from home in the evenings and on weekends. I work in arts administration specializing in new play development (a fancy way to say I work with playwrights and theater artists) and do some consulting with other small arts orgs as well. Sometimes that means Zoom meetings, but usually not. When I’m not at work, I’m often at a choir or band rehearsal, babysitting at a friend’s place, or eating. I love restaurants and I like cooking okay. I’m trying to love it more.

At home I like to watch TV and movies—I work with a lot of TV writers, so I’ve always got a long list of shows to check out. I also play piano, sing, and write music, and I listen to podcasts as I cook or clean. I always try to be respectful of roommates, though, so we can work out times for me to make noise that don’t bother you.

I’m allergic to cats and dogs so sadly can’t live with either. I have asthma so I can’t have smoke in the house. Would prefer no cigarettes, but weed can be ok outside/with an open window.

I hope to become a parent in the next few years, and I do not expect a roommate to be involved in childcare. However, if you’re looking for a multi-year arrangement (which would be great!), it probably wouldn’t work if you hate being around kids.
