About the room
“Rainbow room” in a shared house in Central Tacoma for $500 a month. All of the utilities are included. There is also a $100 deposit, and the first and last month’s rent is needed upfront. For each additional person, rent is $250 more per person. Each wall is a different color, hence the “rainbow” name. There is a big window with a garden view. The room has a small closet, built-in shelving, and it has a keyed lock. This room comes furnished with a twin bed, tv, and chair to go with the built-in desk. There is also a small overhead loft that is great for storage.
This is an old house and outside some things still need work, but it’s coming along well. There are many trees and shrubs around providing privacy, a rock fire pit, and a pond with ambient running water. The exterior has security cameras. The house is in a good neighborhood, and just a few blocks away are several bus lines, a big park, 6th Ave, and shopping areas.
Inside, the house looks great and is designed with unique, colorful, and artistic features. A washer and dryer are available. Internet is included, with WIFI and an ethernet cord in each room. This is a net carbon-negative house, with all electricity from renewables and more carbon offsets than what is used! All paper towels/toilet paper/dish soap/sponges/cleaning supplies are provided and selected based on environmental benefits.
There are some basic rules to the house, including no guests over, doing your part on the cleaning schedule, recycling properly, etc. A recycling test is given. The rules and policies are all straightforward and meant to keep an enjoyable environment for everyone. This is a shared home living space, and not just a space to rent without respectful obligations and rules.
About the roomies
All new housemates are female, but there is a male (me) with my own space and bathroom but I still share some common areas. Housemates are all friendly and respectful adults with busy lives. It’s generally quiet and not a ‘party house’, but occasionally some will hang out and play board games, have a fire, or do something fun.
