About the room

We have a 3 bedroom/1 bathroom duplex in South Minneapolis (around 35th and Park Ave S). We have the second and third floor of the duplex, which means there are a lot of stairs.

The layout of the duplex includes two living rooms, one on the second floor that Alyssa also uses as an at home office and has a guest bed in the corner. Coconut the doggy is crated upstairs when Alyssa is not home. The main floor has the other living room, which is empty during the day, and the two other bedrooms, one of which is the open bedroom. We have a kitchen/dining area. Plenty of street parking, free in-home washer and dryer, three-season porch, and a backyard with a grill and fire pit. (There are multiple photos included.)

The landlord uses a management company, and they have been good about repairs. The management company requires that you pass a background check and show proof of income.

Money Stuff: Rent is $485 a month, plus utilities. We pay gas, electricity, internet, and half of water (split with neighbors downstairs), which can total around $80-$100 a month, depending on the season.

Pets: We can’t take anyone as a roommate that has cats or dogs. Amanda is allergic to cats, and Alyssa has a lil 11lb chihuahua mutt named Coconut, who loves all people and does not bark much. We would not trust her around a pocket pet based on how badly she wants to chase squirrels. Amanda’s family dog Caramel sometimes stays with us (and may need to come live here permanently at some point…she’s sweet but unpredictable with other dogs). It is very important that our future roomie would enjoy living with a dog(s) in the house.

The Bedroom: This bedroom would be best for someone who is a heavy sleeper, since it shares a wall with the bathroom. It isn’t a huge room (13x9 ft.), but there is a storage unit upstairs and also room upstairs for bookshelves, an extra cabinet, or something else to help free up space in the room. There is also free space on the porch where one of our past roommates set up a little art studio and has potential for whatever our new roommate would want to do with it, since it shares a wall with the open bedroom.

About the roomies

Our names are Amanda and Alyssa, and we are both in our 30s. Our current roommate moved in with her partner, and we are looking for someone to sign the new year long lease with us. We are both fully vaxxed and want that in a potential roommate too. We are looking for someone in their mid 20s to 30s and would prefer to not live with cis, straight men.

We both have active lives and end up going to bed around 11pm-midnight and starting work around 9-10am. We are pretty relaxed at home, fairly tidy and clean. It is important to us that a roomie would pick up after themselves and participate in house chores. We both work in nonprofits/higher education for social justice causes and are part of LGBTQ community / allies to that community. We are 420 friendly. Neither of us drink alcohol much (Amanda occasionally enjoys a beer or glass of wine).

Amanda (she/her): I’m in my late-thirties, POC, and work full-time at the University of Minnesota. I’m often gone for much of the day (work primarily at the office and often have things in the evening) and every other weekend. When at home, I’m most likely sleeping, eating, relaxing in front of the tv, and generally recovering from grad school life (yay, I’m done!). I love traveling, checking out the local theater and food scene, biking and other outdoor activities, and snuggling with my family dog, Caramel. Meyers-Briggs INFJ. Enneagram #4.

Alyssa (she/they): I’m in my early 30s and work as a sex education teacher. I’m also a full time grad student going for a masters in therapy. Since I partially work from home and do school online, I appreciate having a very calm home environment. I identify as queer, non-monogamous, white/middle eastern, and neurodivergent. I like to spend some time unwinding at home, just hanging out and cooking, having a partner or friend over, and watching TV. I have really appreciated having roommates that are comfortable talking about mental health. Enneagram #3.

If you are interested in living with us, please tell us a little about yourself and what you are looking for in a place/roommates.
