I have a private, fully furnished bedroom for rent in my beautifully renovated 2 bdr/1 bath home in the historic Watts-Hillandale neighborhood near downtown Durham. The house is located between Duke University’s East and West Campus. One mile walking distance to East Campus, Duke Hospital, Whole Foods, and the shops and restaurants on Ninth Street. Durham’s thriving downtown district is only 1.5 miles away. A block from the house, you can access West Ellerbee Creek Trail where a paved path runs alongside the stream and nature trails wind through the 17-acre wood preserve.

The room is fully furnished with a walnut bedroom set in cherry finish. The set includes a four poster bed with a full size mattress and box spring, a large dresser, and bedside table. The room gets lots of light from two windows facing the back and side of the house.

The entire house has been renovated with new hardwood floors throughout every room, a vaulted, sun-filled kitchen, and a charming sunroom complete with A-frame roof, bead board ceiling and a working fireplace. The bathroom boasts beautiful tile work and the back yard faces a wooded preserve. The house also has a TV, high speed internet, and all modern appliances (including washer/dryer) as well as heating and air-conditioning. There is street parking directly in front of the house.

Rent is $800/month and includes utilities, high-speed internet and sharing of all common areas (see pics!). Must be dog friendly! One very sweet and affectionate rescue dog lives here, too. No smoking or vaping allowed. Security deposit equal to one month’s rent is required along with a background check and verification of employment and income. Proof of admittance into a graduate program, fellowship, residency, internship or similar may be used in place of an employment verification and background check.

I am the only other person living in the house so I play the part of owner, landlord and roommate (whew!). I’m a business professional working in HR. I would describe myself as friendly, funny, kind, and a major dog lover! I enjoy eating out with friends and discovering new restaurants, doing DIY projects around the house and watching TV/movies with my dog, Essie. For me, the best match for a new roommate/tenant would either be another business professional or - due to my close proximity to Duke University & Duke Hospital - a graduate student, new or visiting professor, doctor, intern or fellow. Traveling nurses are welcome, too! Someone who is dog friendly is also very important and someone who does not smoke or vape is an absolute must!
