I am renting a whole house in the Pleasant Street neighborhood in NW Gainesville, close to downtown. The best way to access campus is by bike, but the 46 and 1 are pretty close and drop off in front of the Museum and the med school, respectively. The house has a fully fenced yard, which is ideal for a dog, and the neighborhood is great for walking. I park my car out front, but there’s room for a second car. Downtown, Depot Park, the Hawthorne Trail, Cypress&Grove, The Knot (climbing gym) and a Publix are all within walking distance.

Rent will be $700. Utilities are variable and tend to run high ($70-$170 per tenant, based on season) because Florida doesn’t know how to insulate houses. It’s not the cheapest place around here, but it is definitely a great place if you’re looking to be a little removed from campus, are interested in a nice neighborhood community, and want some extra space for a dog. An interest in boardgames and videogames would also be well served here too.

I’m a grad student at UF, so I like my home life pretty quiet and uncomplicated. I like to keep things tidy (although admittedly not spotless). I like to paint and play videogames on my own, and play boardgames with friends. I also enjoy running, climbing, yoga, and soccer.
