About the room

Hello, we are a 2700 sq ft house in Brentwood with the spirit of living as a community. The house has 5br, 5ba (T-hole for every B-hole!), 4 people, and 1 cat. Additional pets will be considered on a case by case basis, but definitely not a bird. We are looking for a 5th person starting as soon as June 15th for $800/mo plus equal split of electricity, water, garbage, and internet. The home consists of a finished basement and two above-ground floors. There are 2 kitchens, 2 fridges, 2 wood burning stoves, mostly oak hardwood floors, and an attached 2-car garage space which is used for storage (bikes, etc). The house is located in the Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood near Flavel Park – a few blocks to the bus (lines 19, 71 and 72) and not far from the Green MAX line. Traffic is light as we live on a cul de sac. Nearby is Flavel Park, Mt. Scott Park, FoPo neighborhood, bike paths including the Springwater corridor, tons of stores, Cartlandia, bars, and eats.

Available Space and Rent Details Rent is month-to-month lease at $800/mo, $1000 security deposit, and pet deposit is $250 per pet. The room is located on the second floor with three west-facing windows and one south facing, approximately 22’x22’ with 3 closets and private full bathroom. The room has a ductless heat pump system that supplies heat and AC. You are welcome to live here for whatever period of time you like, all that is required is to stay in good standing with others in the house (using communication skills, effort, and empathy) and do your fair share of chores. Couples welcome.

House Layout 2nd floor: Hardwood floors, 2 bedrooms, 1 master bedroom with 3/4 bath, shared full bathroom with two sinks, storage closets, and attic storage space. 1st floor: Large living room + open dining room with built-in cabinets, 1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms (one with bath, one with shower), hardwood floors, kitchen with nice dishwasher, new stove, breakfast nook, 2 fridges, washer/dryer. Basement: Finished, 1 bedroom with half bath, second kitchen with stove, large game/hangout room with extra bed, built in shelves, and wood stove.

The House Situation We are 4 people, ages from late 20s to 30s. Currently we are 1 they/them, 2 she/her, and 1 he/him. This is a queer/trans/neurodivergent-friendly household where we value authenticity, and facilitate a safe space where we can all celebrate our true selves. Our schedules vary, but when we’re all around we talk and check in, sometimes cook, share ideas and art, have occasional low key parties/gatherings, etc. Right now we’re all night owls, but it’s generally quiet before 9am and roughly after 10pm. Everyone needs to chip in for their fair share of chores, especially keeping the kitchen clean. There is a chore-card system that rotates every 2 weeks, which seems to be very manageable for everyone. We have some gardening going on, as there is a large front and back yard. If you have an interest in gardening/landscaping and are willing to help with yard projects, that would be great. We removed the front yard grass a few years back for extreme garden expansion! All utilities and shared house expenses (i.e. dish soap, toilet paper) are tracked with Splitwise (app), so if you don’t have it we’ll get you going on that. LGBTQ+ friendly, BIPOC friendly, we are a house that encourages diversity of thought and lifestyle, sex positive, nude friendly, 420 friendly (if marijuana is a problem for you look elsewhere), responsible/fun alcohol consumption, Alex Grey friendly, NOT METH/HEROIN FRIENDLY though we wish you success in your recovery.

What we’re looking for People who are open-minded, inclusive, and respectful are required. Bigotry will be quickly evicted, so don’t even pretend. Looking to find another person who values compassionate communication, respect for others like they expect for themselves, willing to own up to their faults and mistakes, willing to calmly communicate boundaries, not quick to judge, not quick to accuse, assumes the best intentions from their roommates, has the best of intentions when communicating with their roommates. We want someone who wants to laugh and not take things too seriously. You should enjoy contributing your share of responsibilities in the house, because none of us can afford the back-brace needed to carry the team. We all work together and your participation will be required, commensurate with your time spent at the house. This participation requirement usually translates into 1 hour of shared chores every two weeks, and cleaning up after yourself.

When responding, please send an email to let us know when you could meet up and check out the house (more options the better). Some thoughtful background about you and your interests will help us know if you’d be a good fit. We want to make sure you find a place that works well for you, just as much as we want to find a person who will mesh well in our house. So a detailed email about yourself will help to make that happen.

About the roomies

1 they/them, 2 she/her, 1 he/him ranging from mid 20s to late 30s. We have our social days and our solitary days, respecting each other’s space and occasionally sharing food. Compassionate communication is highly treasured.
