About the room

We have a private, upstairs room available in our five-bedroom home in Beacon Hill. We are about a ten-minute walk from the light rail and Red Apple. We are a house of LGBTQ+ folks who like to keep things peaceful and tidy, and we are also still being responsible about Covid, as not everyone here is in the best health to begin with. We also have two very friendly indoor cats living here, so being a fan of cats (and being someone who is careful with going in and out the front door!) is a necessity.

• Wheelchair Accessibility- Not wheelchair accessible.

• Drug and alcohol use- Alcohol is fine, marijuana is okay as long as it’s not being smoked indoors.

• Steps and stairs in the house- There are steps up to the front door and all of the rooms are on the second floor.

• Amount of light in room- Each bedroom has one window. Common areas are very open and large and have a lot of windows.

• Scent free- We all generally steer away from heavily scented things and are considerate in terms of asking each other permission before doing anything like lighting a scented candle in a common area/etc. I’m not sure if I could categorize us as ~officially scent-free~ but we’re definitely open to discussing things like changing the dish soap or other communal items if needed.

• Price of rent and utilities - Rent as stated above, utilities are sent to us every two months by the landlords and are divided among the tenants. They can be very different depending on the time of year, how many residents there currently are, and what everyone’s utility habits are like.

• Is any labor past the standard household chores expected of tenants? - We only expect that people pick up after themselves and wash their dishes soon after using them so that the sink isn’t full! We all have a pretty good system of taking the trash/compost out as needed and doing other cleaning tasks when necessary depending on who has the time and energy (sweeping, wiping down counters, etc.) but we would also be open to creating a schedule/list of general tasks if that would be helpful.

• Proximity to public transportation - We’re a short walk from the light rail and just a couple blocks from the 36.

• Noise level of house - We like to keep it quiet, but we do have some instruments here (piano, guitar) that will sometimes get played at reasonable hours for reasonable amounts of time (and of course, we can always negotiate what the best quiet hours are for everyone).

-Communication! We have a discord server that we use for the household. We have information there about how to use certain things (like how the left burner on the stove is finicky and how to make it work, that sorta stuff), we have info about security (like everything we make sure is locked/closed at night, etc.), and we use the channel to communicate things we need or want to inform each other of, that way everyone can stay up to date, even if they’re not currently home or otherwise available to be spoken to in person.

About the roomies

There are five queer people currently living here, friendly but pretty quiet and like to do our own thing. It seems like a lot of roommates, but honestly the house is so big and everyone is off doing their own stuff so often that it typically feels pretty empty. Household meetings over dinner and the occasional household hangout (maybe setting up karaoke in the living room or playing instruments/doing art together) would be super cool with all of us!
