About the room

It’s a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in the Spice Tract neighborhood in SW Bakersfield. The house is walking distance to groceries, the park, a handful of restaurants, different gyms, and a couple breweries I like. For students, CSUB is less than 10min away by car (18 by bike). It’s a safe neighborhood with lots of old people and lots of families with kids. People do have gatherings, but no one goes overboard with noise.

The vacant room has a queen sized bed, a sit-stand desk with two monitors, a dresser, a bookshelf, and a closet. You and the other housemate would share a common bathroom but there’s more than enough space there for it to be shared. There’s a tower shower caddy and hanging one with lots of space for shower necessities, a medicine cabinet, under sink cabinet storage, and another cabinet above the toilet. I have my own master bathroom which is an en suite so I wouldn’t use yours.

As far as other common spaces go, the living area is open for any or all. Same with the kitchen. Same with the big back yard/garden. And the garage (for additional storage space if you need it? A lot of neighbors have turned theirs into their own additional second living rooms/lounges which I may try to copy or I may turn it into a home gym like the previous homeowner had).

There is a nice kitchen with all the essentials for cooking—gas stove, pots, pans, rice cooker, a blender, an espresso machine, home drinks cabinet, etc. It’s all communal, just clean after use. (And kindly replace anything you accidentally break). Usually, when I cook, I’m happy to share what I prepare. The fridge/freezer is big enough for 3 people’s food, but I also have a second fridge/freezer in the garage. There’s also a washer and dryer here.

About the roomies

I’m an engineer from the Midwest and the other housemate is journalist from New York—he’s just extended his lease so I must be doing something right. We’ve both lived with housemates before and we’ve both lived coed before—any gender and orientation is welcome. We’re just trying to all get along here. This place would very much be your home so feel free to make use of it, decorate your space, socialize to your heart’s content and so on. The only asks would be don’t do things that would be unsafe while here, don’t do anything illegal, replace anything you break, etc. Feel free to shoot me any questions you may have.
