About the room

I’ve lived in this apartment for almost 2 years now with my friend/business partner. For that time we’ve split what is technically a 3BR using the 3rd room as an office. As of now I’m only looking to fill his room but would want to decide with that new person if we want to fill the 3rd room to lower the rent, or keep it open to use for extra space whether it be art projects or butter churning. The photos of the room have furniture but it will be UNFURNISHED.

It’s a beautiful apartment and honestly a steal for the price. Big living room, it’s a corner unit so every room has multiple windows (including the kitchen and bathroom). Tons of closet space, like honestly too much but it makes storing AC’s over winter no issue. It’s an old pre-war building, I like the charm that comes with that but if you’re used to super new buildings this probably isn’t for you.

I have eclectic taste and love decorating (and redecorating) so I’m very much looking forward to incorporating someone else’s style and belongings into the space so that this is able to feel like your home as well and not just a home you’re coming into. I very much am looking for a long term roommate who is just as interested as I am in creating a warm, hospitable, healthy living space.

The apartment is at the corner of Winthrop and Bedford. Two blocks from Prospect Park and the Q train with easy commuting to Manhattan (~30min to Union Square). Really sweet neighborhood, tree lined streets, lots of families.

The management company that owns the building is pretty hands off honestly. Can be a good thing and bad thing at times but in general it means that typically they don’t really care much about what we’re doing as long as we keep the place in good condition, and they fix things if there’s an issue.

Renting Requirements: I’m looking for someone who is respectful, tidy and kind. I’m open to all genders/sexualities/walks of life. Ideally I’d be able to meet you in person to ensure we’re a good fit and feel comfortable around each other. Feeling safe and at peace in my home is really important to me, and I’m sure it is to you as well, so that’s my priority throughout this process. Also good to mention that I’m ideally looking for someone in the same life stage as me (mid20s-early30s)

I know that inherent in this process is me wanting to vet people, but I know that’s probably a shared feeling in return so I definitely intend to be taking zoom calls to quickly make sure we feel like a good fit before going any further.

It’s important to me that you have a stable income, and I do want proof of that just so I’m confident that we are both going to be capable of comfortably supporting the rent for the long term. Rent is $1445 each/month. It may go up marginally at some point but it’s rent stabilized so it’ll never rocket up.

I’d look for us to sign a simple sublet agreement that takes care of protecting your rights as a member of the household and protects me financially from someone shirking on rent. I would most likely be interested in having first and last months upfront, and would probably want to caveat a timeframe that I would need notice of moving out by but happy to land on that together.

No racists, homophobes, or other bigots. I have a lot of friends of all types of backgrounds and I expect the person I live with to have respect for everyone regardless of who they are or what their life experience is.

Pets: I have two kittens (~2yrs old). They’re super friendly but also haven’t necessarily had experience living with other pets. I think a dog is probably out of the question, another cat is possible, in general I’m open but probably just warrants a discussion.

About the roomies

I’m a 26 year old, he/him, originally from Oregon. I’m a musician and filmmaker, and I love learning new things and meeting new people. I have two kittens who are super cute, so not having allergies and liking cats is a must.

In general I feel like I’m weirdly kind of hopeful that my new roommate doesn’t share my career? I just love hearing about other peoples lives that dont mirror my own lol but obviously not a deal breaker in the slightest.

I play trivia every Thursday night at a bar in the area with some folks and you’d be welcome to join!
