Wanted: two persons for live-in carer work

Free room and board and small pay. Household bills, basic groceries and household items are paid for. The room and board is in exchange for basic care work. If the care work stops, the room and board stops as well. Experience in care work is a plus.

We are looking for two individuals to cover day shifts and two night shifts looking after an upbeat partially paralyzed gentleman. A couple is welcome as long as each person is able to cover their shift. There will be a total of 3 carers in the house working on a shift basis.

The care work consists of: • Being available throughout the whole shift • Helping with transfers from the gentleman’s hospital bed to commode to wheel chair and back again. He uses his own strength but you are there to turn (using a turning transfer disk and gait belt) and aid him to avoid falls. You must have physical strength as he is somewhat weak. • Wash and clean the gentleman when required • Provide his meals (delivered by Meals on Wheels) • Light household chores such as loading & unloading the dishwasher, feeding his cats, cleaning the litter box, sweeping, vacuuming and daily laundry.

The gentleman has weekly visits from nurses, physical and occupational therapists. He can do some things on his own and is very much encouraged to do so. However keeping him company, listening to his stories and encouraging him to exercise is important.

We have a night carer already. She has been doing round the clock care until we find the right people to come and join our happy household. We also have someone who comes in and helps out, looks after the bills, and makes sure that what is needed is supplied for.

The house is currently being rearranged and refurbished to make it more accessible. The house would be your home and we ask you to clean up after yourself and treat it well so it’s nice for everyone. You are welcome to have company as long as they are respectful to the gentleman’s home, care and dignity and other carers.
