About the room

FULL, PRIVATE, FURNISHED APARTMENT–The photos show the last leg of construction-in-progress, so please try to envision beyond the construction and paint tools, the unpainted woodtrims…and try to imagine everything beautifully buttoned up, the hardware and artwork hung, the sectional fully upholstered and slip covered, with beautiful and functional accent and body pillows for lounging, the kitchen shelves neatly arranged with glassware and china, the pantry decked out with hardware and small appliances, plugged-in and at the ready (not cluttering up the kitchen), the rugs and bath linens in place…the whole kitten caboodle!

I am nearly done with construction of a fully independent, private-entrance/private address detached apartment, built over a new garage–aiming to be finished by Jan 1-15, 2023, if not before, with a little luck.

It is a truly thoughtfully-designed one bedroom, one bath, with additional loft space with stained glass windows above the private balcony; vaulted cathedral ceilings with beams showing, lots of light, full kitchen and walk-in pantry with all of the amenities (stainless steel microwave/gas range/dishwasher/armoire frige w/ icemaker-water dispenser/garbage disposal, truly beautiful apron sink with integral backsplash and dish-dry platform), eat-at bar; climate control throughout (heat and a/c), and living room outfitted with Jotul gas fireplace surrounded by a spacious built-in sectional that can sleep two, should you have visiting guests (slipcovers pull off, or stay on, and guest bedding stored in roll-out bins under the sectional); 25’x5’ private balcony with cafe table and seating through french door off of the bedroom for access to the outdoors for morning coffee, relaxing in the evenings. Balcony is outfitted with an outlet for your Christmas or garden lights, and a garden spigot for your plants and flowers.

Marble tile shower with vaulted ceiling and skylight and zero-clutter heavy glass door; retrofitted antique American primitive vanity, medicine cabinet; articulating mirror at well-lit window; and even a bidet with towel rack/glass shelf and wall-mounted soap dish, in large, bright bath, fully tiled in marble; utility closet in bath holds a full-size, stacked, washer/dryer, and on-demand gas water heater that means there is no time limit on your hot shower, when a long, hot shower is what you need. Bath linens provided.

Coat closet at the top of the stairs, and built-in/close-able cat door at the bottom of the stairs.

Dimmer switches on most lighting (24 beautiful fixtures in all, peppered throughout the space, all hard-wired), making it easy to create just the ambience you need to work, or to unwind, and with the Jotul gas stove providing firelight and warmth at the flick of a switch. All wood windows bring in light from all directions; an artist’s paradise, and very plant friendly.

The apartment comes fully furnished, with brand new Tempurpedic queen bed, Belgian linen bed coverings in soft blue, and white oxford cloth sheets, zero-clutter built-in nightstands made from blue figured-maple slabs and topped with articulating wall-mounted reading lamps, generous closet with extra dresser, and wall-mounted TV above the tallboy dresser, complete the bedroom, along with the wall-mounted barn ladder to the loft, which can double as a book shelf and/or hanging display for extra quilts, etc, when not in use.

The loft space has independent lighting and outlet, and features two antique stained glass windows taken from a Victorian in northeastern England, and rebuilt into new fir windows by a historical home artisan.

Kitchen comes fully stocked with glassware, stemware, china, flatware, cookery/cutlery, kitchen utensils, mixing and serving bowls, basic kitchen appliances (toaster, coffemaker and grinder, electric kettle, hand mixer, crockpot, etc), with an additional American primitive hutch providing more storage for office supplies/media, etc, beneath a second wall-mounted TV viewable throughout the open-plan kitchen/living area, and plenty of custom built-in kitchen storage, aside from the walk-in pantry with built-in shelving, built-in bins for potatoes/onions, spice rack shelves, and utensil organizers, so that your space remains uncluttered yet highly functional. Fir slab eat-at bar seats four, with barstools. Marble tile back splash from base of tall bank of kitchen windows to the tops of the high fir baseboards.

A place for everything, and everything in its place; the space was designed like the galley of a ship, earnestly leaning in to anticipate your needs, so you can rejuvenate when you are home.

This space has truly been a custom labor of love right down to the original artwork, and the french fountain that greets you after you pick up your mail from your private locking mailbox at the garden gate you enter, from your space in the lighted driveway, to the shared private garden, leading to your front door (and my back kitchen door, opposite)–complete with lighted brass doorbell and woodpecker doorknocker…this space deserves that special person who cares for it, just as the space will care for you. Welcome home.

The flat has independent gas service for the fireplace, range and on-demand water heater, and independent meters to measure your electric and water usage, taking the guesswork out of tallying your utility bill. Garbage is included. The wifi from the main house can be picked up in the flat, but is temperamental, being so far from the modem. You will want to set up your own wifi, more than likely. The home is independently hardwired for cable at the sites of both bedroom and living room wall-mounted flatscreen TVs, if you desire cable service.

Of course your utility expense depends upon your usage, but the home is built with green principles to conserve energy, so your utilities should not be more than around $225/month max, unless you go nuts on the water usage or something.

Minimum 6 month stay, dictated by insurance policy.

First and last month’s rent due upon move-in. $1600 security deposit against damages due upon lease signing. All deposit funds are 100% refundable, so long as good care is taken of the property and monthly rent is paid on time. $450 Pet Fee–likely non-refundable, because pets do usually damage upholstery, etc. If the move-in costs are not manageable at move-in time, it is possible to work out a payment schedule over 2-3 months, depending the situation.

Clean-cat friendly, small(ish) dog could be considered. No smoking in the home; smoking permitted outside, on your private balcony, so long as normal safety and cleanliness is observed. Access to bbq in shared private garden below, complete with rustic outdoor kitchen with sink, just inside of the garden gate.

About the roomies

In the adjacent main home at this time it is just me and my 18 year old son, who is beginning his studies this fall, from home, after graduating from high school this past June 2022. My June 2020 high school grad, now 20 year old daughter, is away at school, but comes home when her studies and adventures allow. We are quiet and friendly and busy, and I am gardening most days, so am easy to find. I was a student of dress design, turned language/literature/linguistics major in school, turned dyslexia tutor during my middle mom years, so I like the kinds of things that tend to go with these general profiles…living abroad, art and recipes and yoga and swimming, stitching and knitting, woodworking, and just taking things and imagining them into other things…I love making things “out of nothing” and designing things and puttering around, noticing details, and growing things. One of my next projects is to restore our old upright piano, and to begin learning all of the scales there are (lol), picking up where I dropped off years ago, imagining I could make anything from them. Both of my kids are interesting and thoughtful, kind and loyal. Both are classically trained violinists; my daughter also played percussion, and my son also played trombone in school bands, but both can pick up just about any instrument and play it, from guitar to bass to mandolin, etc.. Both played all of the sports from soccer to swim teams, ski bus, cross country, little league and ultimate frisbee, until finally landing with a love of rowing crew. Both grew up in our beloved neighborhood pool, and both grew into Lifeguards in their teens. Both are fun, healthy, funny, thoughtful, and just great people, and both are following their very individual life paths of study in these years after graduating from high school in the Time of Covid. Birds love our garden, and we have many active nests all through nesting season, which is a delight. We have two darling tabby cats, one tuxedo and one tiger, brother and sister, who are getting up in years and are always about–mostly catnapping. ;)
