About the room
Please read the entire description before messaging. If this listing is still posted, the room is still on the market.
Seeking professional, clean, respectful roommate.
Perfect home for a single military member, business professional, engineer, or anyone with stable employment and 9-5 type of work schedule and who wants a quiet, no-drama place to call home.
Absolutely must love dogs because I have two dogs who will love you.
The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. You would share a bathroom with one other person.
The bedroom has two windows facing the back yard. The bedroom size is 11’ x 10’ 9”. The price of $1500 per month for this bedroom includes utilities.
It can be rented unfurnished, or I can furnish it with a dresser, a night stand, and/or an area rug. (I no longer have the queen bed nor the bookcase that are in the pictures.)
About the house:
The house is a 1250 square-foot one-story home in the “Third Addition” neighborhood in Pacific Grove. Remodeled in 2007, there are hardwood floors throughout the house, the kitchen has a vaulted ceiling, marble counter tops, and a dishwasher, and there is a large washer and dryer at the house. The house is on a corner lot, and there is always plenty of street parking available in front of the house.
This is a safe, friendly, quiet neighborhood, and a peaceful home.
Less than a mile from Lover’s Point and a half mile from downtown PG. Easy access to the rec trail, giving you access to everything from PG to Seaside via bike ride along the coast.
Type of household:
The household has an “academic” type of energy; not a TV/music/party environment. We don’t have cable and we have chosen not to have a TV in the living room. I do occasionally watch a movie or show on my laptop in my bedroom, typically through headphones. We are very conscientious about noise and volume, and we ask that you be considerate about this as well.
That said, no one will freak out if a noise happens. We are simply looking for a roommate who is respectful, considerate, and relatively quiet. We should be on the same page about cleaning up after ourselves, and doing our best to be harmonious co-habitants. We want someone who prefers a relatively clean house, and would be interested in splitting chores if needed, though that hasn’t even been necessary so far. We’re not OCD; we just generally pick up after ourselves.
This is not the right fit for someone looking for the “hangout house” to bring friends to. If I hang with my friends, I do it at their place or somewhere out of the house. We’d like that to be the rule of thumb here. That said, you’re more than welcome to share the common areas of the house, as this will be your home too.
If you have a significant other, she/he is welcome to come over and stay the night, but not more than 3 nights a week so it doesn’t feel like he/she’s living here too. Other than that, overnight guests are generally not allowed.
As any issues arise, we should feel free to approach each other to express concerns and handle them amicably.
Other stuff and a partial summary:
- Utilities are included but please still be mindful of usage.
- No couples please.
- Drug-free, mostly alcohol-free home. If you vape cannabis, please keep it discrete. Occasional alcohol isn’t a big deal but no heavy drinking please. No smoking of any kind.
- No additional pets please. (Not even fish, reptiles, etc. I don’t want to risk gallons of water on the floor or my dog eating an escaped chinchilla.)
- No parties. Very limited visiting rights, and my guests will be extremely limited as well.
- This is a quiet place; no loud noises. Please be mindful of doors slamming closed, etc.
- No musical instruments please.
- Essentially no garage storage available. If you have a bicycle, we can figure out where to put that, either in the garage, in the front entryway (inside,) etc.
- Vaccination not required.
- 6-month lease with option to stay longer.
- Background check, credit check, employment information, recent pay stubs, references and rental history including prior landlords, copy of driver’s license, and $30 application fee will be required.
- Security deposit is $1500.
- The room will be available July 1st
Your email is your application. Applications lacking sufficient self-introductory information will not be considered. You will receive a reply only if there is a potential mutual interest. In order to evaluate whether there’s potential mutual interest, please include your responses to the following:
- What you do for work / professional background.
- Work schedule days and times. Do you work from home or outside of the home?
- How long have you been at your current job?
- How do you feel about dogs and have you lived with one before?
- Any additional information about yourself that might be interesting or important to know.
- Is your income 3x the rent? Any evictions? Have there been any major hits to your credit score?
- Have you ever been convicted of a crime? Please explain.
- What are your typical living habits, and your desired living situation?
- What did you like / dislike about previous roommate situations?
- What appealed to you about this ad?
- What concerns do you have after reading this ad?
- When are you looking to take possession of the room if we were to move forward?
- You’re welcome to send a picture of yourself to put a face with the name.
- Feel free to include any initial questions or concerns you might have. I want to make sure your expectations for compatibility are met as well.
Thank you for reading the whole thing. I know it’s a lot of info for an ad, but I believe that more effort up front will improve our chances of finding a good fit for all involved. I’ll reply only if/when the interest is mutual. Then we can talk, meet, show the room, etc. Thank you!
About the roomies
About me:
I’m a male in my late-40s. I have a degree in engineering but work as a jiu-jitsu instructor. I’m pretty easy-going and enjoy a peaceful living environment.
About the other roommate:
She is a Japanese woman in her late 40s, quiet, respectful, and easy-going.
About the dogs:
I have a 6-year old American Bully and a 14 year old medium-sized mixed-breed, retired service dog. They’re both very friendly, sweet dogs, so if you love dogs, hopefully they will be a bonus for you. If you dislike dogs, this home would probably not be the right fit. You will rarely ever hear them bark and they are mostly being couch potatoes when we aren’t out on a walk.
