About the room

Potentially looking for 1 person for a roommate swapout this fall (2021)

Rent: $533 plus utilities (utilities have been approx another $100-150 per person per month depending on fluctuations in billing). Fiber internet, water, gas, electricity and lawn maintenance are part of the utilities that by signing the lease swapover paperwork, you are agreeing to an equal 3 way split on all utilities. Cable is not, but could be negotiated if a desire is expressed for such. $40 fee for application to the housing company for the background check/application. $533 deposit. First month’s rent due before move in. Pets negotiable with $200 deposit per animal, and must be compatible with the existing dog (friendly husky mix).

Neighborhood: Kingfield, in Minneapolis. South of LynLake, north of Tangletown. The 18 runs near the home and the 46th st station has more lines that run there such as the 11 (disclosure though, we do not use public transit so am not sure exactly which lines are relevant)

About housing offered: 1 west facing bedroom in a spacious older home in the Kingfield neighborhood. It is a 3br 1 ba home, with a lease allowing only 3 people. All bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs on the 2nd floor. There is a small craft room on this floor as well. It’s primarily used for sewing and some painting but we are flexible if you have other crafts. (Its definitely a small room though) Entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen are all on the 1st floor. Laundry is in the basement, down another flight of stairs. The kitchen features a gas stove. Bathroom has a combination shower/bathtub. All floors are hardwood on the 1st and 2nd floors with the exception of kitchen (linoleum) and bathroom (tile). There is a friendly dramatic husky mix dog (Shadow) already living in the home. There are steps up to the home in both front and back, and the parking is street parking. There is a shed in the back (not weather sealed) and a yard (not fenced). In general, meals/food are not shared, but general cooking ingredients such as spices and oils are. There will be a pantry and refrigerator space for you to store food. Cookware is available to be utilized, but you are welcome to bring your own as well. Blender, microwave, toaster, electric hot water kettle as well as a 12 cup coffee maker are available to use. You will need your own room furnishings. Household furnishings are not necessary as the house as a general rule is already furnished, but negotiable if you have furniture you want to bring.

β€”> Accessibility: As noted, there are steps up to and down from the house entrances. The bedrooms and basement are accessible via stairs as well. There are no grips or handrails for the bathroom appliances. Some of the lights are turned on by cord, not switch which do require reaching above shoulder level. Heating is central air but there is no air conditioning if controlled air temperature is important for you. Incense and candles are burned in the home so if you are sensitive to scents, this will not be a compatible fit.

About the roomies

What we would like in a potential housemate: We would love another trans and/or nonbinary roommate but cis people are also welcome to apply! As noted, pets are negotiable. We would prefer someone that does not smoke in the house (cigarettes, vape, or otherwise) but are okay with alcohol or tasty snacks. We are a household with diverse beliefs, looking to create a safe place for the residents. We want the space to be welcoming to neurodivergent individuals. Fixed incomes are okay with us, with the understanding that due to utilities being separate from rent, there will be some variation month to month. We would love someone that doesn’t party much, but guests are always welcome here. A relatively calm (and reasonably quiet) home is appreciated. Trauma awareness, sex positivity, bodily autonomy, kink awareness, and respect for queer/trans identities are preferred. We do our best re chores but mental health/depression dishes do happen at times. One resident is Deaf, so we will need flexibility in communication methods.

About the current residents:

Both are nonbinary and use they/them pronouns. One works from home part time, office part time, and also works on call for a group home as a second job (typically on weekends). This person is deaf, and will require some flexibility in communication methods. Last original person on the lease, tends to be the one that pays and compiles the billing amounts and household product expenses that are then split. The other resident is home when not at work or with family/friends. Shadow (dramatic 6 yo husky mix) also resides in the home, and is good with cats and other dogs, but needs to be monitored with animals that are typically caged/small animals.
