We invite you to save time and money on food, utilities, and gardening by living & purchasing collectively in our vegan/vegetarian-friendly community (meat eaters & omnivores are welcome, though). We save money by:

  • growing food in our garden
  • buying in bulk from local organic wholesalers
  • cooking a wide variety of vegan soups, stews, salads, curries, & casseroles made by our experienced cooks (you pay only $75.00/month for 1 meal a day, 7 days a week; that’s about $2.50/meal); you can also use our garden & bulk food to make your own food; you can opt out of the food plan if you wish We are busy people who seek to save money on food & housing so we have lots of time to pursue our personal visions and passions. We live affordably in a big beautiful, efficient collectively owned house in the heart of the Alberta/Concordia neighborhood. We enjoy all these amenities:
  • HI-SPEED INTERNET connections in every room & wireless internet throughout,
  • GUEST ROOM, if you have guests who you don’t want to stay in your room
  • Large LIVING ROOM / STUDIO space w/ hardwood floor (for yoga, house dinners, music events, classes/retreats, game nights etc)
  • HD Big Screen Smart TV you can plug a laptop into & project anything on the web onto a big hi-def screen
  • Low utilities (Solar panels, fully insulated house, efficient gas furnace, CFLs & LEDs)

Ideally we’re looking for a housemate who has some experience and love of any of the following:

  • Gardening
  • Cooking, Canning, Fermenting
  • Permaculture &/or Urban Homesteading
  • Practicing Compassionate Communication (e.g., Non-Violent Communication, The Four Agreements, etc)
  • Actively involved in growth or self-healing work Mechanical, technical and organizational skills are also welcome. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to live in the house, although shared meals are vegetarian and usually vegan (you can cook and add meat). To encourage diversity in our community we especially welcome applications from women, people of color, & queer &/or trans-identified people; and we will not discriminate against any qualified applicant. No pets, smoking, or illegal drugs in house.

About the roomies

Donna, 48, hails from Tennessee and is currently a manager at Autozone. She has a great love of the outdoors and has walked every major trail in the country. She has a background in chemical engineering and is charting a new career in communications.

Effie, 27, has a background in evolutionary biology and plays several musical instruments, and loves deep conversations.

Kyle, 22, has a very strong yoga and meditation practice, works at New Seasons and is setting himself up for a career in IT that also allows him to use his artistic skills.

Michael S., 30, has been a professional cook for more than a decade & is looking to see how he can use his love of farm-to-table food to transform how food is sourced & served.

Michael St. J., 61, is a founding member of the community, a Peak States of Consciousness Trauma Therapist in training, handyman, house treasurer, bulk food buyer, computer repair geek, and human encyclopedia.

Bart, 61, is a founding member of the community and owner, now living in the ADU on the same property, a yoga teacher, former massage therapist & Zen Shiatsu practitioner, and former executive director of a men’s wellness non-profit. He coordinates our garden team, coordinates maintenance, bulk & retail buying for our community.
