About the room

ABOUT OUR APARTMENT: Our introverted, cat-friendly, LGBTQ-friendly apartment is a spacious three-bedroom unit on the top floor with south-facing windows.

We are looking for one roommate to move into our unfurnished bedroom ($745, including water and garbage). The security deposit is $333 per person and application/credit check is $54 ($64 if you are applying from out-of-state). Internet is $13.33 per person each month, and electricity is around $60 per person every other month in summer (not including personal AC usage) and $80 every other month in winter.

The brown couch in the photo is staying, but the black futon is leaving, so we would have room for another couch and a couple arm chairs if you have any furniture you want to bring. There is a dining/craft table and a cat tree in the dining room, so there isn’t much room for more furniture in there.

The apartment has one bathroom with two sinks, three over-the-sink mirror-cabinets, and a full tub/shower. There is also a full-sized washer and dryer in-unit.

PETS We just had to put down Nathan’s beloved cat, Kiki, due to stomach cancer. Nathan is planning on adopting a bonded pair of cats by early August. Our lease allows for two cats max, so we wouldn’t be able to take any roommates with their own cat. The building doesn’t allow for any other types of pets.

HOUSE CULTURE: We try to do a movie night or board game night once a week if our schedules align, but other than that we are pretty independent. Everyone has their own designated cupboards and space in the fridge and does their own cooking, unless they say everyone is invited to eat something they made.

Since we either work from home and/or enjoy hobbies that require deep concentration, we generally use headphones or keep the volume low when listening to music, watching movies, or doing virtual meetings so we aren’t having to try to concentrate through someone else’s cross-chatter. The rule of thumb is that if other people can’t tune your noise out by putting on their own headphones and playing some white noise, it’s probably too loud. We are hoping to find another introverted WFH, student, creative, or bookworm who also appreciates quiet environments.

We are on a main street and on the top floor, so keeping the windows open is a necessity during the summer and the traffic can get a bit loud. It’s the kind of steady, low-frequency noise that noise-cancelling headphones are really good at handling, but you’ll want to take your personal sensory thresholds into account.

About the roomies

ROOMATE #1 (Nathan) I’m a 35 year-old nerdy dude working as a software engineer. Among other things, I like math, learning stuff, and board games. I’m a big ol’ coffee snob and will probably bake things at you on occasion. I like spending my free time on personal projects, volunteering, and video games. I live pretty quietly but will sometimes try to talk your ear off about whatever book I’m reading.

ROOMMATE #2 (Danica) Hello! I am Danica. I am 40 and work as an administrative assistant/receptionist. In my free time, I enjoy attending theology classes, watching period dramas and sci-fi, painting, writing, and reading.
