Description
I inquired about a listing that was advertised as a 1-bedroom furnished apartment for $875/month. During our conversation, I asked for the name and address of the apartment complex before sending any money.
Instead of providing that information, I was told that I would only receive the apartment name after paying a $100 “priority reservation” deposit through Chime. The sender repeatedly pushed for payment, asked for a screenshot once the money was sent, and refused to identify the property beforehand.
Other red flags I personally noticed:
- Refused to provide the apartment complex name before payment.
- Requested payment through Chime rather than directing me through a verified leasing office.
- Pressured me to send the deposit quickly.
- Sent blurry, low-quality photos that didn’t clearly identify the property.
- Would not provide enough information for me to independently verify that the apartment existed.
I chose not to send any money because I couldn’t verify the listing.
I’m not saying this is definitely a scam, but these are common warning signs. Please do your own research, verify the property independently, and never send deposits before confirming the apartment and the identity of the landlord or property manager. Stay safe, everyone.
