My indoor cat Pixel and I are looking to relocate to Maine and share a house or apartment with one or two clean, emotionally well-adjusted roommates, ideally in a rural/woodsy setting in the county. Bonus if you like being social with housemates sometimes.

I’m looking to share a house or apartment with one or two solid roommates, (quite) preferably in a quiet rural setting in the county, rather than in town. For about four years, I’ve been living on a small gravel road in the county, on the end of a mountain ridge, and love my current location. I’m seeking someone clean in common areas, with a well-adjusted personality. Hopefully you’ve got situational awareness and are used to living respectfully with other people - if you spill something on the kitchen counter or make a mess in the bathroom, you clean up after yourself rather than leave it. You don’t leave the lights on all night when you’re not in a room or on the deck, etc. My cat, Pixel, absolutely cannot be allowed outside of the house, which is one of my most serious concerns. Good communication skills are a huge plus. I’ve lived with men and women, gay and straight, 420 and not, drinkers and sober. As long as you’ve got a good moral compass and clean up after yourself in shared spaces, I’ll like you.

I’m a Xennial bonded to a retired cat (no children) looking to relocate up to Midcoast (or inland a bit) from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia. For most of the last 26 years I’ve been an undergrad, graduate student or faculty/staff at Virginia Tech, and worked other jobs (retail, bouncer, food service, photographer, etc.) while working on my degrees. My undergrad is in History with a Political Science minor, my master’s is in Government & International Affairs. I have been applying to academic administrative jobs at places like University of Maine and College of the Atlantic, and administrative jobs at the town, county, and state level, or nonprofit.

My professional background is mostly as an instructor in the National Security & Foreign Affairs degree program in International Studies, and administrative work in an EU co-funded “Center for European and Transatlantic Studies”, and I work on the side as a freelance photographer and sell my art prints. My cat Pixel’s professional background is as a mattress tester.

Outside of my freelance photography for hire, I tend to shoot a lot of landscapes and nature, milky ways, waterfalls, lighthouses, rural architecture, railroad, and historic subjects. This summer it’s been fireflies. When I can afford it, I travel and camp for my photography. I am on one hand both social and on the other, appreciate of my personal time, usually spent editing photos. I love music, and I’m up for occasionally watching movies with housemates, but I don’t binge-watch shows. It would be extra cool to have someone to play card games, board games, or classic video games with.

Pixel is a one-eared, long-haired land-owl; about 12 years old and extremely social with people, but she’s been bullied by other cats and prefers they leave her personal space intact. She is unusually gentle and spends most of her day laying in bed, on perches, or looking out the window at the wildlife outside, but when we used to share a “normal” house with housemates or a significant other, she socialized a lot.
