Description

(A long description, but well worth it if you are my kind of roommate!)

Alright, hear me out. I’m tired of being a renter. I don’t necessarily WANT to own a home, but it is becoming increasingly clear to me that landlords are extractive and that rent will continue to increase at a rate that wage increases will NOT keep up with.

In the U.S., the most common way for someone to purchase a house is with a spouse or long-term romantic partner. But I am not marriage-minded and do not want to live with a romantic partner. I have been lucky to live with close friends in the past and would like to continue to do so, indefinitely.

I’m looking for a community-minded individual (or individuals) who are curious about life and pursue their passions OUTSIDE of work. I have a lot of hobbies – unicycling, chorus, dancing, to list just a few – and believe that it’s important to make time during the week to do the things we love. One of the benefits of having roommates (and/or non-romantic mortgage partners, someday) is that the 40 hour work week becomes OPTIONAL, if you can lower living costs. Or it provides more opportunities for travel, etc.

***At this point in time, I am hoping people will find this ad and we can become friends. I have a long-term vision in mind, and I’m in no rush. But long-term plans only work if you START. This plan needs time to grow.

If we are compatible as friends, we can try living together down the road and decide if we like each other enough to go in on a giant investment together. The sort of friendship I’d need for someone to buy a house with me takes time to build, and I want that process to feel organic and not rushed. If we are incompatible, it is so, SO important to find out, and part ways amicably!

Even if YOU AND I are not compatible, if this IDEA is popular and I get multiple responses, perhaps I can play “housing matchmaker” and help others who want a similar situation to find one other! If even one joint mortgage resulted from this ad, even if it wasn’t my own, I would consider this endeavor a huge success.

Yes, I know this arrangement sounds absolutely wild. But, more importantly, does it sound like YOUR kind of wild? Because throwing away half my paycheck to keep a roof over my head and having nothing to show for it after years of rent increases ALSO feels wild…

So, to clarify, I am not looking for a roommate at this exact moment, but please reach out to me so we can become friends and potentially roommates… and maybe even joint homeowners… in the future!
