Laura's room
About the room
*Updated availability date: end of November.
Do you sometimes prefer dogs to people? Then let’s talk! I have two dogs, including one who is not good with new people. Once she knows you (if you’re a dog person), she’s your best friend. Her uneasiness with people is one of the reasons that this house is not much of a social hub – if someone stops by, it’s a whole situation. So if you are looking for a quiet place (almost always!) in a peaceful neighborhood, and sweet dogs who want to hang out with you, this could work out well.
The room I am offering is the largest bedroom, which also connects directly to the shared bathroom. There is also a possibility of renting a smaller room instead for a lower rent, if that is preferred. I will have to get some pictures up soon (I am in the middle of doing some work on the room to get it ready and move some of my things out).
The house has two floors. Bedrooms are all upstairs. The front door is up a couple of steps. There’s a shared full bath upstairs with shower/tub, and a half-bath downstairs. There’s a full kitchen to share – nothing fancy (the quartz countertops are fake!) – and laundry in the basement. Also, a piano, and a TV hooked up to a Roku downstairs, but no cable.
There is also a pretty large fenced backyard that is a bit weedy at the moment because I love the sound of the insects and I prefer crazy flowers to boring lawn. Roomies are welcome to create their own garden if they wish
Right now, parking is the driveway, unless I clean out the garage! The closest bus stop, if needed, is about a 10-minute walk and runs to the YTC. Walkability is not great here (it’s basically a suburban landscape), but it’s about a 25 to 30 minute walk to Depot Town, Corner Brewery, or Kroger.
About the roomies
I’m a 45-year old woman who works from home for a nonprofit organization. I have two dogs in the house: a pit mix and a friendly chihuahua. My daughter (age 22) is living out of state and there’s a 3rd bedroom she may visit and stay in occasionally – so she should be considered a member of the household too, though she will usually not be here. I’ve lived with housemates a lot – most of my adult life – but this time I’m the homeowner, which is a little different. I still think that understanding and coordination are the key to making sure that everybody who lives here feels like this is a home.
I used to think that trying to find a roommate was a crazy idea because my dogs are crazy – until a friend of a friend stayed here for about a year, and that worked out great because she and my crazy dogs loved each other. So, now I’m just putting my place out there as-is to see if there is a match! My primary motivation in seeking a roommate is having an income source to help make ends meet. (vet bills…)
