About the room

Hey there,

We have a smallish room (9’5“x10’5“) w/closet (4’ deep/2’ wide) immediately available in the Cully district. The room has a large part of the unfinished basement that can be used for art or workspace and has a built-in workbench.

We’re looking for a compatible somebody for a long-term positive living situation who is mature, fully employed, can pay bills on time, laid back, clean, responsible, and friendly.

  • somebody who proactively cleans up after themselves (including dishes) and helps keep the common spaces of the house clean.
  • Occasional guests are welcome, but we don’t want to be the official hang-out spot for your posse.
  • This is definitely not a party house
  • The house is mostly a quiet house. That doesn’t mean it’s silent, but we probably don’t want to have loads of loud music or television blasting for hours on end.
  • somebody who respects and takes care of items that are in the common spaces
  • We don’t have to be best friends forever, but it would be nice to have somebody we can have positive relations with and engage in friendly communication from time to time
  • We’re both introverty (but enjoy conversing with our roommates), so bonus points for being on the introverty side of things
  • Somebody who is honest, respectful, and a good communicator

The previous occupant left due to moving out of state for work. He had a background in product design and used the basement space for 3D printing, wood, and metalwork. He also used the closet in his room as a recording booth.

The house also has a living room (and we can accommodate somebody with living room furniture), a small dining room, and a decent-sized kitchen.

Perks:

  • decent location, safe, quiet neighborhood
  • there is a single parking spot for your car as well as plenty of street parking
  • on-site but coin laundry
  • plenty of storage space (basement and attic)
  • musician friendly (drums and loud amplified music probably wouldn’t be a good mix here, although we could potentially work out some noisy times)
  • we have some exercise equipment that you can use in the basement

The no-fun/party pooper stuff:

  • No smoking/vaping tobacco products
  • no alcohol dependency issues or hard drugs (420 and light drinking OK)
  • no doggsters (we might be able to accommodate a single cat or caged animals)
  • no guns
  • must be vaccinated
  • we don’t have central heat, instead each room has their own built-in heater
  • quiet hours after 10pm or so
  • No! (just kidding, we’re not always the party of no)

Bills - The landlord is raising the rent in Sept. and the rent of $720 reflects this increase. So until Sept monthly rent is $630. Xfinity (internet/no cable) - $26 each Pacific Power - $20-$60 each Deposit: $630

So if you made it this far and you’re interested in the room please shoot us an email providing some info about yourself (your hobbies, what you do for a living, why you’re looking for a new place to live, what you are looking for in a new place to live, when you are available to move, when you are available to see the place, etc.).

Thanks! John and Sam

About the roomies

John (50-year-old male) - I’m a long-time student of the sitar and sometimes do electronic music (through headphones). I’m pretty well-traveled having spent about 4 years overseas mostly in Asia and the Mediterranean. One of my hobbies these days is trying to cook some of the food I ate during those trips (mostly Indian and Middle Eastern). I like hiking and the outdoors, I used to be an avid backpacker when I lived in CA. I currently work from home 8-5 doing IT support. I also do a little bit of yoga and am a long-time vegetarian (technically an extremely part-time pescatarian), but I don’t concern myself with the diets of others unless they’re cooking meth. I rarely drink but smoke 420. I am in a long-term committed loving relationship with cheese.

Sam (31-year-old male) is a student at PSU majoring in English and Psychology who aspires to become a counseling psychologist. He also works part-time doing private security for the City of Portland. In his free time, he likes to attend classes at a local BJJ gym, lift weights, and meditate. He’s a friendly, easy-going, and introverted dude who cleans up after himself. He’s thinking about moving later this summer.

Maggie (2.5-year-old female cat) is a friendly and sassy indoor-outdoor calico. She doesn’t scratch or mark, and she LOVES attention. He has lived with other cats before without any issues.
