About the room

Hello, My family and I are renting a private room in an apartment complex with three levels and a garage. Our listing is on the first level. On the second level, there is access to a washer-dryer room. There are two medium-sized washers and dryers. The washer costs $1.50, and the dryer costs $1.00. Of course, there is an elevator to reach the second floor. The apartment itself houses six individuals. A family of three in the living room: a mother, husband, and daughter. The second private room accommodates another family of three: a mother, husband, and son. The private room has two large windows allowing the flow of air through the room. There is also a closet with space for hangers. The shared bathroom is just a short walking distance from the room. The bathroom has a tub-shower combination and a small and large mirror. The kitchen is available for use; however, the refrigerator is not available for use. There is a stove and a microwave available. We simply ask you are careful when using these appliances and that you make sure to clean up after yourself everytime in this space. If there is a need for extra storage of pots and pans, there is a cabinet available. The living room is my family’s main living space, so please make sure to keep an appropriate volume when passing through to exit the apartment. There are several house rules and preferences we’d like potential roommates to be aware of. First and foremost, maintain the room and our home clean. This is an issue we’ve dealt with for several years with different people. Many tend to leave the shower’s floor black and dirty due to unwashed feet. If you prefer to walk barefoot and your feet tend to get dirty quickly, please make sure you are giving your feet a quick wash before entering the shower. Additionally, it is preferred that you not enter the shower with sandals on. We wash the shower weekly, so there is no need to worry about uncleanliness. However, if you are particular about keeping sandals on, ensure you clean them before you enter. Again, we don’t want the shower floor getting stained. As for the toilet and sink, make sure you wipe down these surfaces if any liquid or bodily fluid is left behind on them. Male roommates tend to leave toilet seats unwiped with urine. When roommates have nosebleeds, many have cleaned themselves up in the sink; however, they do not clean up the remaining blood. Please make sure you are always maintaining the cleanliness of the bathroom. We put our efforts into cleaning it weekly, and it is a shame to see our work go to waste. We do not ask our roommates to pitch in for bathroom cleaning. We just ask that you respect the standards we want to keep our home at. Please do your best not to stain the mirrors. Additionally, we always leave a cloth by the sink. This cloth is indicating for cleaning up the sink if it gets too wet. Please do not use it for drying your hands or skin in any way. We hang up a hand towel specifically for hand drying. As for the kitchen, if you tend to cook often, make sure you clean up any surfaces where you have dropped food or liquid. This includes the floor, the countertops, the stove, the microwave, and the sink. Please bring your own sponge, soap, and gloves for dishwashing. When handling raw meat in the kitchen, make sure to sanitize any surfaces where the meat was placed. DO NOT clog up the kitchen or bathroom sink by dumping greases, fats, oils, or food scraps down their drains. Generaling house living rules consist of no door slamming, appropriate volumes at appropriate hours, respectful conduct, no smoking, drinking, or drugs of any kind inside the room or apartment, NO borrowing of toiletries or utensils (broom, mop, vacuum, etc.) without permission, and NO sexual conduct inside the room or apartment when children are around. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm - 4:00 am on weekdays. Quiet hours are from 11:30 pm - 4:00 am on weekends. Please do not host large gatherings of friends inside your room. Of course, you may invite friends over, but do not overdo. Additionally, make sure they keep the bathroom and kitchen clean if they need to use these spaces. As for preferences, we would prefer Spanish speakers and couples with no kids. If you are one individual, that is okay too. Just make sure you represent yourself. Do not have someone else like parents or friends ask questions or pay a deposit for you. We would prefer to get to know an individual personally before we allow them into our home. Regarding age, we prefer couples or individuals between the ages of 21-45. We do not ask that roommates contribute to bills of any kind. The pricing is simply for access to the room and the apartment’s bathroom and kitchen. Internet access is available upon request. However, we limit the access to the person renting the room. This means friends and partners who do not pay for or live in the room may not have access to our internet. Of course, there are cons to every arrangement. The apartment complex is not located in a very nice or safe neighborhood. Several individuals surrounding the area are associated with drugs or alcohol. Some neighbors in the apartment host loud and long parties during holidays. For example, during the Fourth of July, neighbors have loud music and fireworks until 4 am. The streets get pretty dark at night. The structure of the building is not perfect, so now and then when it rains, water seeps in through the roof or floor. We can provide extra towels and cloths if water enters your room. The neighborhood is not very cleanly, meaning each apartment has its fair share of bugs. Common bug types in the area and building are spiders and cockroaches. We do our best to rid our apartment of these bugs, but you are at risk of waking up with bites at times. Always to cover up leftover food. Pets may be loud during evening hours, but there is rarely ever loud barking during late hours. Noises like bangs, screeching cars, and helicopters are common during the late hours of the night, but they are easy to get used to. Across the street from the apartment building, you do have access to two mini-marts. One mini-mart provides access to water refills for large containers at a fair price. Either than that, you can find snacks, beverages, and household appliances in these stores. Next to these mini-marts are a beauty salon and a pupuseria. The pupuseria also serves burgers. We are just an eight-minute walk from a Food 4 Less, a great place to get groceries and produce at reasonable prices. Across the Food 4 Less is located an excellent taco restaurant called El Taurino. They do sandwiches and burritos too. Less than a thirty-second walk from this restaurant is a Giant Dollar, a ninety-nine cents store. This store is convenient for quick buys and cleaning appliances. Additionally, we are near several Metro bus stops, including but not limited to the 28, the 200, and the 603. If after reading all this you are still interested in the room, please message me before the end of September. Feel free to ask any questions. If you are interested in seeing the space, feel free to inquire about that as well. We look forward to getting to know you.
