About the room

Up for rent is one bedroom (will be unfurnished) (rA) inside our 4 bed / 2 bath house in Costa Mesa, between Triangle Square and the beach. This is a great place with a big fully enclosed backyard. The house is nicely furnished in all the public spaces with beautiful leather furniture. We have board games and all the housemates enjoy a good game! We have a commercial-grade water filter for super-pure, alkaline drinking water. Our Wi-Fi internet speed is 1 gig (1000 Mbps) with a mesh network around the house for consistent high-speed data! The kitchen has all the pots, pans, silverware, and dishes needed that we all share. Other sweet amenities include a grill, surfboards, a dartboard, a basic weight set, and a big backyard with two large trees that create a cooling microclimate with a nice patio and dining area under one of the trees! It’s pretty awesome. The community is vibrant and we’re less than a 15-minute walk from the ocean! You’re within walking distance to all the restaurants and venues in the downtown Costa Mesa area (like Sidecar Donuts, The Wayfarer, Casa, Triangle Square, 24 Hour Fitness, etc) We also have a Trader Joe, Mothers, Sprouts, Ralphs, Vons, Smart and Final, and 4 other grocery stores all within a mile. We’ve got a really good thing going here, so we’re looking to find a counterpart that will vibe with us. Must be comfortable with dogs. Currently, housemate 2 has 2 large dogs that live in the house with us until the end of February.

THE SPECIFICS

  • Agreement: 6 months, then month-to-month

  • Move-in Cost: first, last, and one month’s deposit. Please note, If you are currently unemployed, we require 1 additional month’s deposit as collateral (which is returnable.)

YOUR SPACE The house is fully furnished, but your room is/will be completely unfurnished and ready for you to make it your own. Note the cool architectural beam in the bedroom and the slanted high ceiling!

The room is 10x10 with an additional 6x3 sqft in the closet Bathroom: You share a private bathroom with one person (4 housemates share 2 bathrooms).

Utilities: We split utilities 4 ways here. If you have AC going all the time you pay a bit more to offset the group but besides that, we just split everything evenly. Our utilities are about 165 per person per month and this includes the general “house amenities” of paper towels, toilet paper, zip-lock bags, dish and laundry soap, etc. that we buy at Costco and use together as a house.

Parking: We each have our own space in the driveway where we can come and go as we please, All of our spaces are snug so if you have a large truck it might not fit. There is street parking as well.

The landlord is nice but not a very giving person. So if anything in the house breaks (like a refrigerator or something) it’s pretty much on us- so we all pitch in to get a new shared amenity, so far in four years we’ve bought a washer, dryer, oven, and a fridge so the main ones seem largely out of the way.

Our Covid Policy: Use common sense and show the other housemates mutual respect. With several housemates working publicly, it’s hard to control such a thing so our process is to do the best we can to protect each other, but at the end of the day, we aren’t freaking out about it.

WHO WE ARE We are two single guys and a single girl in our 30’s. We are all really good-natured, fun-loving, and easy-going. We aren’t drama-ful in the slightest and very much seek the same in you. We are all very big believers in good energy and karma and currently share a positive, safe, happy space based on mutual respect and camaraderie. Nothing major, just being a good human. We are the back house on a two-house property and the front house is a couple who largely keep to themselves.

We all work a lot but when we hang out we like to play chess, video games (Playstation), talk philosophy, bike, throw the ball in the backyard, or help each other on our entrepreneurial ventures. We’re ultimately a pretty quiet house, 2 housemates 420, but we do not allow cigarettes inside the house. We share all the common areas and split all the utilities and such evenly. We do keep our own foodstuffs separate but split common expenses (paper towels, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc) which is easy as we have a Costco membership. (I pay for it, you can just use it or join us on our trips, there are 2 Costcos pretty neat by)

Housemate 1: 39 years old From upstate NY. Owns a few small businesses including an eco-conscious coffee company and Boutique Communications Agency as well as a few consumer products. He works from the house but keeps to his own space. He likes playing video and board games, enjoys music of all kinds, health, eating clean, movies, philosophy, football, basketball, dogs, mindfulness, 420, video production, and is all about the good vibes.

Housemate 2: Male 43 works in sales. Likes to hang out and have a good conversation. Or go to eat out at one of our great local restaurants. He’s always fun and easy to get along with. He recently moved from NorCal.

Housemate 3: Is a 30-year-old executive assistant at a local Veterinary Hospital. He likes cooking, video games, animals of all kinds, cigarette smoking on the back patio, and friendly kind people.

We all have guests over sometimes and enjoy playing games in the backyard and hanging out.
