Room has single bed, desk, chair and table, with drapes and a room fan. A/C also in the summertime is provided. What’s an average day look like for you? It’s important to find out if your new roomie is an early bird or a night owl, and how their work or schooling may affect the flow of the household. If you are sharing a bathroom it can also be useful to determine things like showering times if you both have to be at work by the same time.

What do you think of overnight guests? How would you feel about your roomie’s partner staying over on week nights? Can out of town friends and relatives expect to be able to crash at your place during their visits? Do you prefer to limit overnight guests to a few nights per week or not at all? Knowing this off the bat will prevent an awkward conversation about house guests down the line.

In what order would you put these activities: work, play, clean, rest? Your values are important and can play a huge factor into how happy you will be in your living situation. If you prioritize cleaning last and they place it first there could be some tension.

Are you looking for a roomie or a friend? When you or your roomie have friends over, are you expecting everyone to join in or do you prefer everyone do their own thing? Are you willing to share things around the house (kitchen supplies, etc) or do you prefer everyone to have separate belongings? Find out what each other’s expectations in a roomie relationship are so there’s no hard feelings later on.

What chore do you least like doing around the house? Perhaps you hate taking out the trash and they can’t stand cleaning the bathroom - this is a great question to determine if there are easy compromises when it comes to the household chores you’ll be sharing.

How do you spend your weekends/ days off? Do you prefer to binge on netflix and lay around the house? Are you out exploring the city or hanging with friends? How much time are you typically around in your free time can be an important thing for your roomie to know.

How many nights a week do you go out? Do you going out multiple nights per week? Do you prefer to lay low? Make sure your social habits are somewhat in sync to keep the peace year round.
