About the room

Seeking women and genderqueers to sublet two bedrooms in a great older house on Beacon Hill. There is a living room with fireplace, small dining area, 3 bedrooms total and 1.5 bathrooms. Outdoors is an urban permaculture garden, veggie patch, a greenhouse, a fruit trees and flower trees, 3-bin composting system, worm bin and clothesline. Free street parking is available. There is a small kitchen here with nearly every appliance you could need, and a washer-dryer. There is a locking garage for storage. The house is not wheelchair accessible due to a few stairs at the front and back doors. We share the main bathroom. We are not an intentional community or cooperative, but operate on mutual respect, and agreed-upon baselines for living together as a harmonious household.

Two unfurnished bedrooms are available for move-in January 1st:

12’x11.5’ room, corner windows overlooks street, driveway and neighbor’s flowering plum tree. Lots of light. Closet with curtain, 5’x2.5 feet.

9x13.5’ room, window overlooks backyard and lilac bushes. Built-in shelf. Less street noise in this room. Closet with door 2x4’.

Monthly rent is $950 per month, and includes electricity, water/sewer/garbage, biodiesel oil heat, and high-speed wi-fi internet. Also included are some shared household items such as toilet paper, laundry soap, and natural cleaning supplies.

One human per room, please. A single individual renting both rooms can also have a significant discount on rent.

Move-in cost: 1st and last month rent. (Last month’s rent can be made in 3 installments if necessary.)

I have an elderly cat who likes people. Please be a person who loves cats but doesn’t have one. Small animals such as fish in small aquariums or other small enclosed creatures are possible on a case-by-case basis, but no dogs, cats, or other mammals are allowed due to lease and allergies.

No smoking or vaping inside. Vaping may be done outside. Due to allergies and asthma, we are a scent-free house, meaning we do not use/wear cologne, perfume, or febreeze in the house.

The house is situated in a quiet neighborhood in central Beacon Hill, just up the hill from Georgetown, Columbia City, Rainier Beach, and the International District. The #36, #50, and #60 buses all run within a 7-minute walk. Beacon Ave has a Red Apple Supermarket, library, light rail station, shops and restaurants. Jefferson Park and Beacon Food Forest are within walking distance. Head down into Columbia City for PCC, the Ark Lodge Cinema, and lots of shops, restaurants and bars. A nearby trail is great for walking or cycling and goes along the neighborhood p-patch. Also within walking distance are restaurants, a garden store, and MacPherson’s produce stand for cheap produce.

We are authentic, conscious humans who are firmly on our healing paths. We take responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, clean, peaceful and environmentally conscious sanctuary in the city. We clean up after ourselves, especially in kitchen and dining area, and we rotate chores. If you clean up after yourself and help with housework, please apply! We communicate peacefully and respectfully, we talk over issues as needed and work it out. We have friends over sometimes, but not a constant stream coming and going. Overnight guests are limited to staying 3 nights a month. We respect quiet hours after 10pm, and occasionally plan to host a bbq or party with friends that goes beyond that. We compost and recycle, conserve water, and we use biodegradable cleaning products. We are responsible and pay rent on time, every month. We share a meal together a couple of times a month. We create community.

No drugs. No drama. No partiers.

About me: 40 years old, cis-gendered queer white female, activist, Pagan, college student and teacher. I am usually busy with projects, art, gardening, bellydance, friends, food and yoga. I enjoy creating sacred space and healing adventures. I’d like to live with people who are peaceful and creative.

So that’s the household in a nutshell… if you’re interested in talking more, tell me about yourself and what you’re looking for in a household.

Have a beautiful day!
