About the room

We are seeking an attentive and trustworthy live-in Dog Caregiver to join our small team in providing excellent care to our guest pups. We run a small dog care/sitting/boarding business, where guests come stay at our dog paradise! The Caregiver will follow a daily care schedule, provide love to our guests, execute cleaning/maintenance schedules, and nurture relationships with our pup parents. To succeed as a Dog Caregiver you should be patient, empathetic, and have strong dog/people skills. Must love dogs! You should be observant and committed to making guest pups feel safe and comfortable. We have two houses next to each other, joined by gates. Both properties have been remodeled into a puppy oasis with multiple separate play areas. We have outfitted the properties with all the bells and whistles for our guests to have an amazing stay! It is almost certainly not what you imagine, so please do come take a look for yourself. For instance, we do not give guest pups free range around the houses for safety reasons, but instead have separate climate controlled play spaces accessible via doggy doors that are fully washable and monitored via camera feeds to TVs within the houses and all other fun technology. The Property: I live in one of the homes and have another longtime (5+ year) 22 year old female employee that stays at the other house. I realize it all sounds a bit strange, but we have been hosting guest pups for over 7 years and have an amazing system down. 80-90% of our guests pups are repeat stays so developing long term relationships is what we strive for and is crucial for success! Our pet parents choose us because they want to have that personal feeling of having their pups stay in a ‘home’ environment, but also want the reliability/safety that a standard boarding facility offers. The second property is a fully furnished 3 bedroom, 2 bath house (1550 sqft). You will have access to your own bedroom and bathroom. Our other employee stays in one of the rooms and we use one room for guest pups to sleep in at night (pups sleep in kennels), so we are looking to hire 1 additional person that will have personal use of the other bedroom. The bedroom is furnished with a very comfortable queen bed, dresser, and you will have space to store personal belongs (bedrooms have keyed locks). The Work: The nature of the dog care business requires reoccurring tasks (feeding, cleaning, putting dogs to bed) and then small amounts of time throughout the day, such as 5 minutes for a pickup or 10 minutes to handle a drop-off/check-in. Therefore throughout an average day the morning routine may require 1 hour of dedicated time, evening 1.5 hours, with perhaps five, 10 minute blocks of time throughout the day. Therefore the work is often broken up throughout the day with a large amount of discretionary time available in-between work responsibilities. This is not like a regular job and is intended to be overall only part time, so there is flexibility with school or other work commitments if planned in advance. We will have two employees overall to handle the majority of the day to day of the operations, so each person will have 1-2 full days off each week and then will be on duty part of each of the other days. The majority of the work in taking care of guests happens in the morning for breakfast (7-9am), at dinner time (~5-7pm), and at bedtime (bringing guests inside to sleep). I use the term ‘on duty’ because guest owners drop-off/pickups are prescheduled throughout the day and it is important that guests be loosely monitored to ensure everyone has a great stay. You can be working on other projects or watching TV while on duty, so you do not have to be actively working with dogs all day. Pups typically run around, play with each other, and then nap on a repeating schedule. It is important that you be available/accessible while on duty. As mentioned, it is a different way of working but it works out being a part time job overall when we calculate the hours. The schedule is flexible and we would all meet to find the ideal schedule based on each person’s other commitments. This can be revisited based on changing school/work schedules. There is quite a bit of fluidity to the job and I believe it is important to treat people how I would want to be treated, so it is a pretty reasonable situation in my opinion. Location: We are located ~1 mile from Scottsdale Community College near 101 and Chaparral in Scottsdale. ~12 minutes from ASU Tempe. Zip code is 85250. Other Information: Position available starting June 1st and possibly prior for training. Please see the compensation section below for additional details. Since we love dogs here, if you have a pup of your own they may come to work with you if desired, assuming vaccinations are kept current, they are friendly, and not destructive. No cats though please. Please note that this is an employment agreement and not a rental agreement, so you will NOT be a tenant/renter technically as all accommodations, utilities, and household disposables will be paid for. Use/access to the property is fully contingent on employment. NOTE: If you are nearby and interested in a before/after school job, but are not interested in being a live-in caretaker, please reach out to me as we may have another position available for 2-4 hours a day. Job duties includes the following: • Be the smiling face that greets guests and creates that lasting impression for our guests and owners. Advise the pet parents on the different services and solutions offered to create a customized experience for their pet. • Provide an excellent experience for guest dogs and their owners while ensuring that guest’s feel extra loved while playing/staying! Building a connection with pet parents while understanding their pet’s unique personalities and providing a safe, fun environment during the visit is critical for success. • Slightly irregular hours, sporadic working times, and work during holidays is critical for the operations of the business. It is expected that you will be available to assist in operations during busy times of the year unless agreed upon in advance. It is typically most busy in the summer and during major holidays. We have found that it is usually the inverse of the standard school schedule as that is when people are traveling the most. We have great historical data so we can predict with decent accuracy how busy we will be on any given day. I would be happy to review this with you during the interview. • Perform/report on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual routines, which may include daily care of guests, cleaning, sanitation, exercising, feeding, administering medications, maintenance, laundry, property improvements, scheduling/coordination, meeting new/existing Clients, handling drop-off and pickups, observing guests, and moving of guests to different play areas. • Timely/periodic assessment and reporting on the well-being of each guest. Safety and cleanliness are top priority, so that should be top of mind at all times. • Spaces will be kept presentable and cleaned at least a weekly basis. • We are currently available for owners to drop off and pickup dogs between the hours of 7am-8pm Monday through Friday and Saturday/Sunday 10am-6pm. You may be ask to provide services during or outside of these hours as required for caring for guests. Availability of time specific services will be agreed upon in advance. • Answering messages to pet parents and providing frequent updates. • Night Care: The compassion and care for our guests doesn’t stop at the end of the day. At night, ensure that our guests are well taken care of throughout their entire overnight stay. • We do send photos to guest parents every other days, so you will be responsible for taking, editing, and sending photos. • You may be asked to complete routine maintenance tasks to ensure the properties stay at our high standards! These will be discussed in advance. Compensation: Compensation based on experience. This is a part time position (~20 hrs/week) that pays a small salary with bonus opportunities, in addition to the benefit of having personal use of a bedroom/bathroom with all household utilities/expenses covered. Additional details can be discussed during the interview.
