Private room available in our 3,000 sqft., 5 bedroom 4 bathroom house on the very top of Signal Hill, near Long Beach California. Short (three month) term stay, OR (negotiable) longer month-to-month lease. Room is available October 1st. Rent is $990, plus utilities.

The Location: We have been extremely thankful to have been able to live here during this quarantine year! Stay in our quiet and gated community with beautiful panoramic views of Long Beach, San Pedro, and Catalina. There is access to lovely walking trails, a community pool and hot tub, BBQ area, and picnic spots. We are extremely close to schools like Cal State Dominguez Hills, CSULB, and LBCC. We are 10 minutes from downtown Long Beach. Due to the easy access to the 405, it is a quick drive to Los Angeles OR Orange County. On a good day, the commute to Santa Monica, Hollywood, Fullerton, Los Angeles, or Irvine would be 45 minutes! We can walk to get groceries (Costco, Mother’s Market, and Food for Less) easily.

About the Home: The home was built recently so it is well insulated. It doesn’t get too hot or cold and has a good breeze. The room is spacious, has great natural lighting, and can be accessed through a private entryway. We have a large patio and backyard overlooking the ocean and all of Long Beach to relax in, work out, garden, etc. We also have parking! Unlike most of Long Beach, we have a two car garage, a driveway that can fit three cars, and spaces in the surrounding area within our gated community. Lastly, we do have a washer and dryer inside the house.

About the roomies

Why the room is now vacant: Our long term roommate is moving out to start the next stage of his career and relationship. We originally had this room available in June, but his plans to move got moved to October, and it is happening for real now. We will miss him a lot!

Why we live here: Some of us have lived here over three years and are extremely thankful to come home to an environment that is positive, relaxing, and drama free. Our HOA is extremely picky about renters, so we are extremely fortunate to have a good relationship with our landlord and with our neighbors. We are all young working professionals and or students. We value cleanliness, responsibility, sociability, hard work, and the overall desire to foster a community of helping each-other grow, professionally and personally. We treat the home as if we owned it. We are committed to contributing more than our fair share, when it comes to keeping on top of chores and obligations. We aren’t afraid to give honest feedback to one another and address any challenges head on. We recognize how important it is to come home to something positive. We, and our landlord, are very selective, for that reason.

Who we are: We are all in our late twenties / early thirties. I am a managing partner in solar company. One roommate is a journeyman union pipe-welder. Another roommate is a bartender and student for communications. Our final roommate is an engineering manager at an aerospace company… and hopefully you! Both guys and a gal lives here. Most all of us here have significant others that do not live with us. We don’t discriminate and are open to any gender or orientation and are friendly to the LGBTQ community.

What we enjoy during free time: Though we are not a college party house, we enjoy being social. Now that this Covid world makes going out harder, having good roommates to socialize with has been even more important. We appreciate opportunities to co-relax in the common areas. Typical (and some pre and hopefully post covid) activities include: board game nights, enjoying craft drinks, home brewing, playing Virtual Reality (VR) games, movie nights, bowling, XBOX and Playstation, PC games and MMORPGs, Jackbox Games, biking, longboarding, tabletop RPG gaming, KBBQ, Shabu Shabu, Wasteland Weekend, camping trips, OC Fair outing, airsoft, ranges, Vegas trips, watching of shows like The Mandolorian, Expanse, and The Witcher, watching streamers and youtubers, enjoying comedy shows, etc. We would love to have a roommate that actively likes trying to “get out” and plan things to do. We do what we can to support one another while keeping sane during this quarantine. We also appreciate the ability to have enough space in the home to decompress and relax if we wanted to. If any of these activities sound similar to yourself, please be sure to mention it in your message to us! The more detail you give the more we can get a good feel.

What we find important: Communication, humor, levelheadedness, problem solving, awareness, professionalism, cleanliness, and ability to respectfully communicate are all very important. We do not want drama. We look for solution oriented mindsets. Our home is our shelter. All of us still work, and are also dealing with these crazy times as best as we can. We need our home to be a place where we can feel supportive energy. All of us are working on growing professionally and, though we may not be in this household forever nor expect you to be, if and when we ever leave, we hope to be in a better place and hope to have made some long term friends along the way.

About You: Preference for those with good credit, good job history, good rental history, and possibly references. Students and young professionals definitely welcome as well. You must not be messy, and we must trust that you won’t be bringing extra risks into the house, in general. No animals, sadly. No smoking inside house or illegal drugs. You must be willing to sign a roommate agreement. Length of stay may be negotiable. For now, rent is short term, until potentially extended month-to-month after three months. We treat first three months to be almost a trial period; we wouldn’t want anyone to feel like they are forced to live here if they don’t enjoy being here, and vice versa. Lastly, you must feel that and articulate why you’d be a good fit to live with us!

To Inquire Availability and Schedule Walkthrough: We would like to set up a roommate interview ASAP because we are finalizing our decisions. TEXT me (DO NOT CALL OR EMAIL) with an introduction on yourself. I do this partly to see who actually reads the posting, and to prevent spambots. Please detail what stood out from this post and on why you might be a good fit. We get a lot of messages, and it really helps when someone puts in the detail about themselves. We clearly put a lot of thought into what we are looking for, so please do what you can to stand out! At first, we can set up a virtual tour and go over roommate agreement lease things. If all is positive from the virtual tour, we can set up an in person visit. Finally, a deposit and first month’s rent is needed after being approved by our landlady.
