About the room

The Convent Arts Collective has a couple of rooms opening up in our creative and evolving art-driven household, housed in a gorgeous 1930’s nunnery in the Lower Haight, San Francisco. Rooms will be available in March and April 2021.

Rent for the rooms opening up ranges from $1188 to $1200 based on room size. Utilities/Supplies: $150 per month for gas, water, electricity, internet, and includes all common house supplies (such as toilet paper, trash bags, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc.) We have short-term and long-term availabilities to cater to almost all housing needs.

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

This is the Convent Arts Collective, an almost 100-year-old convent where for the past decade, it has served as a launchpad for artists of many disciplines. The CAC has housed everyone from comedians, to drag performers, to opera singers, filmmakers, photographers, and more. We strive to be a place where artists & quirky creative people have basic resources and support to elevate their art practices to their highest potential and collaborate.

Amenities include a dozen art studios in our basement that can host a variety of art practices, a jam room and a recording studio, a beautiful chapel with multiple stained glass windows with an organ and a piano, a roof area with an amazing view of Downtown San Francisco and a small garden.

We’re looking for a couple more Conventees who are 21+, mature, creative, responsible, and financially stable. Your art may not be the only way you make a living, but it’s why you get up in the morning. We encourage participation in events such as family dinners, house gatherings, art shows, and we also recognize the importance of having time and space for your own personal well-being and endeavors.

Your house responsibilities are to attend at least one of two house meetings a month, complete your assigned weekly chore, and keep up to date with house communication.

Unfortunately, we can’t support any more free-roaming pets. There is a small hypoallergenic dog/house mascot in the space named Chewy, who is very chill, sweet, and remains with his human the majority of the time.

THE SPACE

In addition to your room, you have access to the aforementioned amenities, on-site washer and dryer, and personal (if available) and communal workspaces.

Optional Food Plan: $175 per month all you can eat that covers and accommodates all dietary lifestyles and choices.

Large open community courtyard and garden connecting our house with our sister house, The Center. Used for a multitude of communal activities such as outdoor live events, casual get-togethers, or just a place to chill out over a tea and a book.

Discounted tea and yoga at The Center Tea House next door.

Location: Close to multiple MUNI bus and train routes (5, 6, 7, 21, 22, J, F, K, L, M, N) and a short walk away from multiple city landmarks such as Alamo Square which houses the famed Painted Ladies.

COVID-19 Policy

Our Covid policy aligns with the recommendations set forth by the CDC and WHO.

  • We have readily-available hand sanitizer stationed by the door and we are BIG fans of hand washing 🧼
  • We have regular meetings to talk about new research and shifting conditions.
  • We have agreed upon protocols in case anyone has symptoms based on CDC and CA guidelines, including notifying the house and immediately quarantining.
  • We support each other with food, video calls, and emotional support if we need to quarantine.
  • We follow the SF mandate! We love masks 💙
  • When people need to travel, they quarantine in their rooms, wear masks in any common spaces, and get tested after a period to use common spaces again.
  • All non-residents (e.g. plumbers, movers, cleaners) wear masks at all times and are inside for as little time as necessary to do their job.
  • We have a COVID-19 communication channel where people post their travel and quarantine plans, test results, new research, and current events.
