About the Room: The bedroom is 12x10 ft with plenty of custom built-in shelving, closet, and storage spaces. It is the only bedroom downstairs and is three steps from the small downstairs semi-private bathroom (with shower, sink, toilet - a normal little bathroom) and the back door. The room looks out to the backyard and is both the most private (morning and evening, when it counts!) and, occasionally, public (during peak kitchen hours and during the infrequent social gathering). The housemates are all highly respectful when using the kitchen at off hours and noise has never been a problem. About the House: The house has a spacious living room and dining room with a great media system/projector for spontaneous dance parties, movie nights, a full bar for hosting and toasting, and lots of space and shelving for crafting. The kitchen is the heart of our home, and we are all active in it. Count on many a kitchen convo as you come and go. Our backyard comes equipped with a firepit, grill, and more space for larger building and craft projects as well as a workshop shed with many tools for additional creation. The side yard stores our bikes and camping gear. We have a washer and dryer, and likely every appliance and cooking tool your domestic little heart could yearn for! The house is located a 15-minute walk from MacArthur BART, which also means good bike access to our favorite parts of Oakland and Berkeley. Groceries, pizza, tacos, shawarma, bakery, etc are all within a 10-minute walk. We have good freeway access too, for when it’s time to drive a car; parking is on-street and plentiful. We prefer to keep the driveway free for bikes, waste access, and projects.

House vision: We are 3 creative weirdos (and one weird cat) who have created a warm, cozy, creative and delightful group home that we affectionately call Cloud Castle, which we started 3+ years ago with this simple mission statement: “We want to have a lovely house with nice weird things around and have strange, kind, interesting friends come over and do nice weird responsible, creative, decadent, admirable things. We like cooking and building stuff and cutting wood and decorating objects and generally improving our circumstances with work. Some gardening in the front yard, some shade over the back, something clever on the mantle. We have lived with many ok roommates who live in the house and clean up after themselves (more or less) but do not make the house a better place. With this house, we would like to do better.” That being said, we’re looking for more than just a warm body to fill a room, and we hope that you are too! Most important for us in a roommate is that they are interested in contributing to making a good home, are good company for us and our friends, and are good communicators with whom we can make good fun and co-mingle while respectfully navigating each other’s individual lives. And of course, with a pandemic raging outside, we expect you to adhere to our COVID protocol (detailed below). About the Roommates: We are, in no particular order, makers, creators, cookers, respectful neighbors, community builders, silly midnight living-room dancers, weekend crafters, bikers, and occasional psychonauts in our 30s. While passionate and engaged citizens, we are not radical activists. We skew towards the fact-enthusiast nerdy type, with a good dose of heart! The sign in our window reads “Black Lives Matter. Women’s rights are human rights. No human is illegal. Science is real. Love is love. Kindness is everything.” These are a MUST for us. More explicitly, we collectively identify as anti-racist, queer/sex/body/kink positive and are 420+ friendly (everything in moderation!). C1 (he/him): Values silliness, order, and thrift. Bookish product designer who would rather be building interesting things out of scrap wood or decorating his clothes with puff paint. Has dated R for 2 years. C2 (she/her): Often found making delicious food or crocheting adorable tiny fruits. Will never lose your stuff if she borrows it. Air dries lacy lingerie in the backyard. R (she/her): Ex-educator who is always working on 10 simultaneous craft projects. Likes organizing fun things to do with friends. Tries to grow food and somewhat succeeds. Has dated C1 for 2 years. C3 (she/her/meow): Lives in R’s room. Skittish, but will hang out during periods of idleness. Sheds, much to C2’s chagrin. Will tell you about her toys if you let her.
