Description

Hi there! I’m Jordan, she/her, a 29 year old working in GIS in Toronto.

I have lined up an apartment and will be moving in shortly. Your bedroom would be available January 1st. It is a large 2 bed/1.5 bath apartment in the Church & Wellesley village. Your rent including utilities would be $1250. We would also split internet.

I work a 9-5 schedule and am comfortably secure in my job and industry. Currently I am working from home, but my office is starting to go back in January. I would still occasionally work from home and so will have my desk set up in the corner of the dining room, but I prefer being in the office so I would be working from home at most 8 days in an average month, barring any covid lockdowns. If you also work from home sometimes we could make the dining area more of a shared office space/dining area. It is nicely tucked away from the rest of the living area almost like a den.

I used to work in hospitality and really enjoy cooking and wine. I’m veggie, I don’t require my roommate to be and have lived with meat eaters, but it means I like experimenting in the kitchen and am always down to share :) I wouldn’t describe myself as a huge partier, but I do enjoy going out and I like hosting and having people over for dinner or drinks, respectfully of course. I enjoy quiet nights at home too and am a big boardgame fan.

I speak Portuguese fluently and am working on my Spanish. Outside of covid times, I have been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit, something I look forward to eventually being able to do again.

I love time spent outside, I like to bike to get around the city. I’m big on backcountry camping, I worked in summer camps for years taking groups on overnight canoe trips. Now I try to get out on at least a few backcountry canoe and hiking trips each year. On weekends I like to go hiking within driving distance of the city as well.

About the unit/room: The building is an older purpose built rental building with 10 floors. There is a coin laundry room in the building. It’s a great neighbourhood, is very central but still has a community feel, it’s easy to forget that Yonge St is just a block away. It has all amenities within a short walking distance. College station is less than a 5 minute walk and Bloor-Yonge is just over 10 minutes walking.

The space has a newly renovated kitchen with a double sink and dishwasher. It is on the top floor with only one other unit on the floor and has its own large rooftop patio/balcony that overlooks the city. There are air conditioners already in each room as well. It has a well divided living room, dining room, and the kitchen is it’s own room as well (opposed to how in a lot of newer condos it is a wall along one side of the living room). The front foyer area has a large walk-in closet that is shared.

Your bedroom has a large north facing window, a double closet, and you would have the vanity and toilet in the full bathroom (I would only go there to use the shower that is shared between the two of us, I would use the half bath ensuite to my room for the vanity and toilet).

The other “roommate”: I have a dog, his name is Gord. I have had him for a year and a half, he is 6 years old, and is a large dog at 70 lbs. I have and continue to do extensive training with him. He has passed his Canadian Kennel Club Canine Good Neighbour certificate and beginner level at a trainer in Leaside. I have done 1-on-1 work with a trainer and I have him enrolled in the advanced level at the same trainer as the beginner level.

He is a happy guy who likes people and does well with cats (I also love cats so would be open to a roommate with a cat, Gord has lived peacefully with a cat for the past 10 months and met 2 others without issue). He is not allowed inside the kitchen and only allowed on furniture when invited up. When I am not home he is in his crate, not free-roaming the apartment. He is not hypoallergenic, but being short haired is not a heavy shedding dog and I don’t find his fur sticks to clothes compared to more long haired/double-coated dogs. He is not a frequent barker and knows how to relax indoors.

All that being said, he is still a large dog and of course isn’t perfect. I expect there will be some growing pains for him with moving and a new roommate, so I have preemptively planned for refresher training with one of the trainers I have worked with in addition to the advanced class he is enrolled in.

You: My ideal roommate would be someone who isn’t just in and out but who also enjoys having a cozy home that is an enjoyable space to contribute to and share. Let’s enjoy hanging out and making a cozy apartment that feels like home! I don’t expect us to be instant best friends, but I am hopeful that sharing a space can be pleasant and enjoyable. I know that living with a dog isn’t for everyone, so I would prefer a roommate who enjoys dogs so that it is a perk living with Gord opposed to something to tolerate.

My intention is to remain in this apartment for the foreseeable future, so I am looking for a longer term roommate if we are the right match but initially we can see how it goes and if the setup works for everyone.

I am relatively tidy and like my space to be cozy and clean. I see keeping the common space and shower clean as a shared responsibility. In addition to us both keeping the space in a reasonable and clean state, I would like to explore sharing the cost of a monthly professional cleaning service to keep the baseline. I know that cleaning is often the biggest point of contention in roommate relationships and I think having a regular cleaning service is both a nice luxury and takes some of the potential for stress out of the equation.

Re Covid: I am fully vaccinated and request that anyone interested in moving in is also fully vaccinated with proof. I have been strict and cautious throughout covid and have taken the pandemic very seriously. While I am glad we are in a place where it is safer to participate in a lot of activities, I recognise that the pandemic is not over. I also frequently see family members that are at high risk, 60+, and 80+ and do not wish to place them at greater risk.

I know that is a lot of information, if you are interested in the apartment and feel like you would be a good match, please reach out and tell me about yourself!
